4870. It is arguably better than a 260 and sometimes equal to a 280.

depends on what your doing as to which is better tbh.

for gaming the 4870 will pwn the 98gtx but if you want to f@h its the other way around.

you do get what you pay for with gpu's tho.

if your getting a 4870 get the 1gb version as its much better than the 512 and almost keeps pace with the 280gtx.

Actually we're still ontopic. My next card will probably be a 4870 1GB. Cracking card by all accounts and I just need the smallest excuse to buy from the red team.

Can you crossfire the 4870 512 with a 1gb version?

I would guess probably but you would probably use 512mb on the 1gig card. but I could be very wrong

Yes I think so. If so then wonderlust is correct, you would only get 512 being used on the 1GB card.

Dammit. I really wanted the 1GB model. Was advised not to bother though because nothing really uses 1GB at the moment, and by the time programs or games start needing it, there'll be better cards out.

I couldn't wait for the 1GB model anyway. Had a deadline to meet. All would have been fine if I had got the 1GB on release day, but stock was late apparently, so I had no real choice there. I simply didn't have the time to wait for it to be in stock.

col who ever told you that is full of bs m8, its all about the res tho.

@800/600 yea, it would be a waste but once you start to get to the hd res range it makes a big difference.

i feel your pain on stock tho, i was after an e8400....

dual card stuff

wonder is spot on, it should work and only use half the ram on the 1gig card (as they just mirror the data of the other card) its the same if you have a fact oc'd card and a "stock" one they will both run at the clocks of the slowest card.
