View Full Version : Aria's custom build service still available?
Hi,
I was just wondering if Aria still offers a custom build and overclock service for £49+VAT? It's just that the thread that was in the new build advice forum is gone.
I originally made a this thread requesting help speccing a system.
http://forums.aria.co.uk/showthread.php?t=57343
Everyone was great helping me and I feel bad as I never bought a system. Shortly after making the thread I suffered a very close family bereavement and I lost interest in pretty much everything. But I am looking a potential systems again.
Thanks in advance
James
It certainly is, just give our sales team a call, we do this very regularly :)
Also probably worth starting a new thread... times change fast in the computer world ;)
Thanks guys,
I think I'll make a new thread in the new build advice forum once I have made a new wishlist :)
Sorry to hijack your thread with a question OP but I have been thinking about this for a while as well.
I have looked round your various competitors and I must say that one of them just doesn't do good builds and another one judging by a few reviews I have seen of them love to whack the voltage core over 1.4v.
Because of these observations I am seriously thinking about having yourselves do a custom build for myself. Am I right in thinking that you can do a build from scratch for a customer and not just based on changing a couple of things from your gaming pc's specs.
If this is so what also would be the chance of being able to source parts which are not listed on your site for a custom build.
Thanks

Completely custom build yes :thumb:
Using parts from other sources? :scratch Wouldn't like to say (I don't work for Aria in any way), I'd suggest talking to Sales and asking ;) If you're local they may let you drop off bits for the build without knowing where they came from :ninja:

Pity I'm not local, the only thing which I would like sourced is a Silverstone FT02B case. Will have to give them a call on monday and see if they can work any magic.
Another question for you Spaceboy if I can as it seems you are in the know on these things. I am also looking at getting the Dell U2711 from Aria now can GTX580 1.5GB in SLI drive it easily or would I need to see about upping them to 3GB cards?
That, my friend, is a luvverly screen
As for powering it? No idea really, depends what you're doing with it ;) If it's playing the latest games at max detail / very high res, then maybe. Better off posting the question as a new thread in the appropriate sub-forum :)

There are things they use on their custom builds which you can't buy separately other than in the build. Best thing to do would be to email sales and they will come back to you usually within a day. They built my custom PC and it rocks!

did you manager to get the case? in the same boat kinda, well different case, same make ;), aswell as a better Asus Soundcard.
I emailed sales yesterday day asking for a Custom build and as of yet have not heard back? I am guessing they are waiting for a tech to spec things up?
Give them a chance mate, it took almost 24 hours for my first response, which given a busy company is fair enough.
Fair enough its just now ive made the decision to spend I want my new toy.
8 days since I ordered I keep refreshing the inbox looking for the dispatch notification - Aria are still within their 10 days but the waiting is killing me.

I ordered mine on the 1st of August and have heard nothing as yet, so I wouldn't get your hopes up on the 10 days thing. I think they must be under staffed at the moment or something, it is summer so many people maybe on holiday.
Richo
Thats pretty poor - I was verbally told 5-10 business days when i placed the order.
If it takes longer than this because of current staffing levels thats fine but we should be told when we order.
Have you chased Aria up at all?
Took mine 11 days (but that was with 2 weekends) after being told 10 days. I'm cool with that and assume they mean 10 working days.
The wait still killed me though!

I phoned sales last Friday (12th) to get an update and they told me about the staff shortages. I already read that Brains was on holiday. They said my PC build hadn't started yet, and that Thursday the 18th would be the earliest I can expect it. They said they would contact me before they ship it so I can arrange for someone to be at home, and they didn't call today so the earliest it can be delivered now would be this Friday.
When I phoned last Friday I thought to myself I'll wait one more week before contacting them again, if the build hasn't started by this Friday I will cancel the order and buy from elsewhere. It's probably not the brightest idea posting that in the forum I guess, because they just need to say it's started and I would be obliged to continue with the order :)
What has got on my nerves a bit is that two days after my order I wanted to change the PSU to a modular one, and the DVD drive to a blu-ray burner and they said it couldn't be done as a custom SKU had been made for my build configuration. That was 2 weeks ago :(
I would however rather carry on with my order from Aria as it would cost me more for the same spec PC if I bought it from a competitor.
I have held back from pestering them as I have asked for an overclock and I have read quite a few people having problems with there Aria overclocks in the forums. I know logic dictates that compared to how much volume they sell it's probably only a tiny amount of people having issues, but the glass is always half empty with me. The last thing I would want them to do is rush the testing and I end up with an unstable PC.
I've lurked these forums a great deal (as you can probably guess :D ) and I will say that if there's one side that really lets Aria down it's their communication.
My guess would be that they're pretty busy doing builds etc that they don't have time to contact or e-mail customers about delays or progress updates which is a real shame... but then I suppose the priority will always be on getting kit ready for people ;)
If you've been told 10 business days, then I'd say keep pestering - you may get a little something to say sorry for the delay thrown in :D
I asked about build times on Aria's FB page and got this reply:
Aria PC Technology (http://www.facebook.com/AriaPCTechnology) Current build time is 7 - 10 days. But we have allocated extra resources to the department and ar building over the weekend to reduce this.
Ricoh - I would chase your PC up obviously something has happened opr it has slipped through the cracks?
I have just been contacted by sales which was nice. They said that the motherboard has had a problem overheating but they have changed it and it's going though it's tests now.
It should be sent at the latest on Monday, but it could be Friday or even today depending on how the overclock stress tests go. So if they send it tomorrow I'll pay extra to get Saturday delivery.
Either way it won't be long now!

I wouldn't let one persons experience put you off, I haven't been desperate for my PC. As I said before, personally I would rather get my PC a bit later and be well built/tested than have it rushed. They did ring me today as well and explained the delay, which I am perfectly fine with. It certainly wouldn't put me off using Aria again.
I have seen how well they build PCs, they do a much better job than I would.
Also remember, being able to just pay for the parts of the PC + £49+VAT means that you always get the best possible price for your PC too. If a part is on super special, you get the super special price. The GTX 570 Super overclock in my rig only cost £239.99 which is a cracking price IMHO.
[sweeping statement ahoy]
When you buy a pre-built PC from many other etailers the price tends not to change from the first time it's sold to the time it's discontinued, regardless of whether or not the parts have dropped significantly in price.

A company the size of Aria, there will be the odd few problems.
A positive from me is that my custom built PC came in about 6 working days.
Mine is on it's way, I got confirmation from Steve earlier today.
Nice one Ricoh.
Its being 10 business days for me- ill start holding my breath.

Thats awesome thanks for checking up.
If it is ready today will it be delivered on Saturday or would I have to pay extra for that?
you can call up and pay £6ex extra for a saturday pre 12, by default it would be Monday if it went today.
does 49 + vat include overclocking? and how much can aria overclock the i5 2500k for that price?
Yes, it does include that.
Whatever you ask for really. 4.6ghz seems to be a good safe bet.
Apparantly mine failed its overclock testing - hopefully ill get it on Tuesday.

It's good that they are being so thorough. The same happened to mine.
Yeah no probs with the QA testing and that Aria are going to play the 'voltage - multiplyer - folding test' game for me.
Thanks gbh4.
Does anyone know approximately how long it'll take to deliver a custom pc (as in you picked each and every part)? And do they offer an express delivery option?
On a side note does anyone know if they take payment by 2 cards (certain amount on 1, and rest on the other) at once :P

Up to 10 working days to process, build and then ship. Can be quicker if all goes well.
Payment shouldn't be a problem, our system can accommodate at least 2 cards as far as I know =]
Thanks very much Murf, can't wait for pay day now :D
Working day 13 now for me.
I understand the delay is caused because of stability problems with the overclock and I am happy for the guys to get it sorted before its shipped.
Anyway I am hopeful it will ship today....
