Improve your SEO.

meta tags for keywords and description.

http://code.google.com/speed/page-speed/

Page speed is a good way to get a glimps at how your page is performing and what you can do to improve it.

Back links is also another. If your using chrome you should be able to install this plugin it gives you some interesting stats on your websites indexed-ness :D

EDIT: Looks like chrome SEO has been removed from the apps. :/

Yeah, but whatever you do - DO NOT join auto hits services. People viewing your site who aren't human will not help!

The best way to get more traffic is to have better / more relevent / more useful content.

You can mess around with SEO, but it's always been the truth that 'content is king'.

Google is getting smarter and smarter, it has a map of the internet, it KNOWS how many people use your site and find it useful, it's increasingly hard to fool.

Make your site actually 'good', and the page rank will come naturally.

Often, SEO snake-oil salesmen will try to tell you that there are magic, quick win solutions. And in the mid 90s that was, to some extent, true. But nowadays, no amount of clever SEO is going to get your page high in google if it's just not very relevent/useful/popular.

Sign up to random forums and post ur website in their forum see what people think.

But yeah relevant pages with good loading times and a high web presence will help.

Meta tags are important as is submitting your site manually to msn and yahoo

Try to name the image files appropriately too, theres alot of good information out there, but also a lot of time wasters, scammers and people trying to sell an ebook... zzzzz

One thing worth mentioning is that Google don't use meta tags, and haven't done for some time. Little is known about the exact details of the spidering/relevency assessment, but they have specifically said that they don't take account of the meta tags at all.

By all means include them, though; some of the other search engines still use them.

That's not to say don't include them, Google still do use meta tags and description although they do not carry any weight when it comes to determining your page ranking. As other replies have said in this post, the best way is to write structured and relevant content. Try to include common phrases in your subjects which are associated with what you are talking about. For example, if you wanted to write about a movie, be sure to include the character names and cast.

Another thing you can look at is semantic data for your site, making it more readable by search engines. Take a look at schema.org.

one more thing, I noticed that your sitemap is missing (i.e. domain/sitemap.xml or sitemap) if you want google to pick up your pages and index your site you NEED a sitemap. You can also setup drupal to ping search engines when you post a new article.

Here is an example of a sitemap to get you going

(oh hai btw i've not been on these forums in years)

As already said content is the most important thing.

Google try to serve up accurate, up to date information.

If someone has asked for a "guide to the best fish and chip shops in east yorkshire" google will attempt to link them to a good quality, up to date article on just that subject. So what ever the subject of your site just create good content and keep it up to date, then if it is of interest you may get it linked to by someone who has found it good and building links helps to increase Page Rank.

If you try to think about who you want to visit the site and what they may find interesting, what type of search phrases they would use then you can start to tailor content accordingly

Basically there is no easy answer to getting more traffic, it's hard work

There is no black magic, if your content is good enough, El Goog will like it :D

Depends on what your content is. I write software for a particular market so I make sure I keep active in those forums and special interest sites. That way there is always a bunch of articles and people linking back to my original site. I also produce press releases and select a site to release a day or so early to create a bit of a staggered start.

Something I've just discovered today: StumbleUpon (http://www.stumbleupon.com)

I picked a couple of my older "how-to" guides and posted them on there, I'm currently having my busiest day ever, by about 200%

Give it a try :)

You seem to be confusing SEO (Search Engine Optimization) with SEE (Search Engine Engineering). SEO is all about making your content more visible (getting links for the engine to follow, adding alt text to images). SEE is about tricking search engines into thinking you are more important than you actually are (for example, paying for backlinks).

Correct, but ask 99.9% of people even in the IT industry what 'SEE' is and they will give you a blank look.

SEO is commonly used as a blanket term to describe all of these practices, even by the companies which operate in this market, as I think you probably know.

Meh - guess so. After all - they won't exactly say that they are doing something dodgy...
