I used to have rusian dwarf hamsters many years ago i used to hate having to take em out to clean there cage, they used to take great joy in seeing who could bite my hand first. little bleeders.

they didnt last very long

Children should be kept in a sealed bubble so that nothing can happen to them, the poor little things.

/sarcasm.

How do kids ever manage to grow up with such risks arround every corner?

You dont grow up unless you break your arm, nearly get run over and all these thngs, its part of what makes you grow up.

I never broke any bones as a child, and the only bone I broke as an adult is my nose (twice).

The only major thing i've broken is my ankle. Someone jumped into the side of my leg when I was at primary school and it ended up with foot being angled so that my toes pointed 90 degrees to the left and the sole of my foot was facing backwards instead of down.

I didnt really get what had happened and was in alot of pain, and looked at my foot and thought "that doesnt look right", so i tried to fix it myself and put it back into place!! Which hurt  But I'm actually glad I did it then while it was still really painful anyway rather than wait till I was at the hospital. I ended up fracturing my foot, ankle, the bottom of my shin (all of that was done when I was first jumped into) and snapping off the 2 sticky out ball joints off either side of my ankle (I think I did that bit.. ). Suffice to say, I have a weak left ankle now

The most ridiculous thing is that i remember it happening at the beginning of the lunchtime, and I was left all afternoon to do work being told "its just a twisted ankle, it'll be ok soon". 6 Hours later, my parents were home from work and I got a mate of mine who stayed with me in school till 6pm to run to my house and get my parents (no mobiles in those days! )

Ah well.. its a good story to tell! :D

Mine have all been pretty minor.

Only bone I have broken is my left pinkie finger, and when I say 'broken' I realy mean 'chipped a little tiny bit off'. Got it trapped in a door when I was about 6, the door was fully closed with my finger in it, good job your bones are so soft at that age!

Other thing was at age 7 I had some stitches in the bridge of my nose becase I was on a seesaw and smacked my head on the handle. I was knocked out pretty good but nothing broken. Still have a little scar there which most people think is just from glasses.

Oh and then there was that other thing when I was 14 and got shoved into a door and cut my head open on the padlock catch (square sticking out bit of metal with a hole in it for the padlock). Blood was spurting all over and I left a trail of blood to the sick bay :P You can feel on the top of my head where theres still a bit of a lump.

MODS, can we split this topic to one that is titled "What injuries have you sustained over the years?" please.
I reckon it could run a few pages.....just from my posts alone 8)

I had a hamster which bit me once. It just kinda dangled there looking at me with its teeth sunk in, then it let go, must have thought: "Oh right! Its you! Hand that feeds etc. Sorry!"

See? I was bitten by a hamster and am perfectly normal :p

I got run over with a push bike and fractured my skull. Lost a finger nail when I dropped a boulder on my hand messing about. Fell in the sewerage beds doing a dare. Fractured my ankle and broke a toe. That's about it!

09-10-08, 19:21
Hmm Have I just been very lucky?

I have been riding motorbikes since I was 17 (nearly 25 years) Fallen off acouple of times when I was a kid, but never broke anything

lol you and me both Wonderlust, i fell of every motorbike i owned, slid down the road on my butt doing 60+ when a tw@t in a lorry pulled out in front of me (didn't see me apparently :S ). I have fallen out of trees / upstairs widows as a kid and the worst i suffered was a sprained ankle, must be the generation we hail from eh ;)

another reason for banning hamsters

http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/article.html?Runaway_hamster_back_in_custody&in_article_id=372311&in_page_id=2

how much did that cost the tax payers?

SIMON11
27-10-08, 14:16
Wow! I like animals but It is hard to believe they would do all that over a hamster. I would have thought it was the owners responsibility to coax it out!

alexnifty
27-10-08, 18:23
Meh. Pay the firefighters to sit about playing cards or pay them to rescue a hamster. Might as well use them if they aren't busy.

If there's a fire I'm pretty sure they would hightail it out of there.
