Hey all,

Just joined up the forums today for a little bit of specific help. I know about 1% of computers, and this shows in the fact i recently bought some new Ram for my pc, which doesn't actually fit. Hooray. The ram in question being;
Mushkin 2GB HP2-8500 High Performance (2x1GB).

Im using a motherboard of the A8N-sli premium variety, and no matter which way i look at it, the ram aint going in. So instead of trying to send back the ram (which i doubt would work anyway, as its my own stupid fault) I've decided to buy myself up a new pc. I already have an 8800GT Nvidia card, and a decent sound card (creative xfi fatality) and ofc, my new ram.

So if possible, could anyone help me with getting the last pieces of what i need? The motherboard... and uh... everything else. As i know nothing, i would prefer not to blind buy again and end up like i have. Thanks for any help i get guys! Sorry for the amount of text too! I dont have a huge budget, but i dont have a tiny one either, incase that helps.

Reala.

Hi and welcome to the forum, :).

The memory you purchased is DDR2 and the A8N takes DDR hence the reason it wont fit.

What buget do you have for your new build, by the sound of it all you need is motherboard and cpu. Maybe operating system it just depends what you want to rob from the old system, new hard drives might be a good idea depending on what you currently have.

I have a nice seagate sata drive with 150+ gigabytes of space. I'm using XP32 professional atm, after using vista for a short while. Which was... horrible to say the least, double system requirements at a minimum for most games which put me off entirely. Other than that yes, i think i just need a new mobo and processor. Using AMD atm, overclocked from 2000 to 2800, but i just dont know what to get to accomadate a new system. My budget is um... i guess quite large, since i only need a few things. But nothing crazy like £300 per item. Thanks for the fast reply!

New incredibly helpful monkey :) :thumbsup:

Reala, can you be a bit more specific in terms of budget?

I would say you probably only need to buy a new mobo that supports DDR2 and a new processor.

Unless you plan on ripping a load of CD's or encoding music all day long then a Dual Core CPU will be fine.

The Intel E8400 30243 is a good processor (a mere £105.69 inc. VAT on superspecial (http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/Intel+Core+2+Duo+E8400+3.0GHz+(Retail+775)+?produc tId=30243)at the moment) and can be combined with an Asus P5Q-E 32296 to make a great system.

Your 8800GT is a good card for mainstream gamers (that's if its the 512MB version) I see no reason for upgrading it at the moment.

What Power Supply do you have?

If you find it's an old unbranded PSU then you'll be needing a good branded PSU which I'm unsure of, but someone else can advise I'm sure. A good PSU with a decent warranty is something you MUST HAVE.

i might get stoned (not in the good way) for saying this but.

i would think about getting the new nvidia amd chipset and use the hybrid sli jobbie.
