View Full Version : What memory for my laptop?
Hi Guys
I need to order some memory for my brothers PC but want some for my laptop too.
Its a Sony Vaio FZ21S. I know that wont mean alot to you so here are the specs:
Memory Speed (MHz) 667
Memory Type DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024MB)
Max. Memory (MB) 4098
Max Memory Comment In the case of 4GB, a portion of the system memory over 3GB might not be available to the operating system
Memory Size (MB) 2048
Now i read i would be best buying 3GB (1x2GB 1x1GB) as vista 32 cant use 4GB but its hard to find.
What would you suggest?
Mat:mrgreen:
2x2gb sodimm i would get ddr800 and underclock it if cant run that fast tbh.

This laptop eats battery life mind so dont want anything too powerfull if you see what i mean.
Underclock?:|
Ok so ive looked into underclocking. So i can run 800mhz in 667mhz by under clocking it from the bios?
Would this be better then buying 667 memory to start with?
Ok, Had a little look into it and being a Vaio i think the bios is locked. It doesnt show you advanced timings for specs for anything. All you can see is boot device order and thats it!
So on that note i think i would be better buying 667 to start with. Now whats best,
This:

Or this:

Place your bets now!
kingston is cas4 so that would get my vote.
shame you cant do ddr800 tho as the price difference is so small, that was the main reason i said get it over the 667.
Ah you *******!

Wouldn't your laptop just run it at 667?
Rhetorical question really. I reckon it would run it at 667.
Yeah, I reckon it would too...
Cant trust it though as if it doesnt it means i would have to send it back to Aria and its just alot of hassle we both could do without.
Pfft. Your asking me?:|
Some "Mentor"... :P
its backwards compatible so it will run at the fastest it can run at :)
Thanks Jon. Placed an order anyway:)
Ordered a heli too8)
