OK well I think this is a GPU problem so here goes..

Basically when I'm playing games I get these black lines, only one appears at a time, usually diagonal and they are the length of a third of the screen. Sometimes I get them flashing up every few seconds( they appear for less then a second) then I see nothing for a while. It's a tad distracting and pretty frustrating since it's my first gaming PC. Also Spore freezes after a few seconds although i think that's a seperate issue.

Anyway i'm pretty sure it isn't heat as i edited the fan speed to 50% and so it never goes above 60c, usually around 50c. I also don't think it's a driver issue as the problem was there with the driver that came with the card and still persists even though i downloaded the latest drivers...

Is the card damaged somehow, should i call Aria to replace it, how does that work exactly? If you don't think it is the card what else could it be?

any help would be great:thumbsup:

Have you overclocked the card at all as it does sound like artifacting, if you haven't then yes it could be faulty.

tbh it sounds faulty... not the first time I've seen this happen... best bet is to fill in a RMA request on the website, then send it us and we'll test it... if its faulty you can claim your postage back (up to £10)

argh now my dawn of war game went all pixelated and froze on me!:thumbsdn:

So does this defo sound like the graphics card?

I mean also how does Aria test it? The black lines sometimes dont appear for an hour sometimes often and freezing is random too, i wouldn't want them to turn it on for an hour, not have a game freeze then tell me i'm lying...

Also if the card is swapped do i uninstall drivers and everything or keep the same ones and literally just physically plug in the new card?

if you get a like for like swap then you dont need to worry about drivers...

If you RMA it, it'll probably come to me for testing. I will put it on 3d mark 06 at 1920x1200 res for a number of loops, then if it hasnt failed I will put it on crysis benchmark for a number of loops again at 19x12

If it passes that then it may be something else causing the issue.

right ok thanks, one thing about packing it, since the system was built for me i wasn't actually given the 4870's box... Is it ok just to pack it as securely as possible, the only box i was given was the Mobo box full of driver CDs and all that, thing is i would have thought the system would have been tested before it was shipped out yet this wasn't seen... hope it is as simply as the GPU lol don't want my first rig to have tons of problems.

Mind if I ask how you do that? I can't find anything for adjusting fan speed or temperature in Catalyst.

If you search through the forum I made a post a while back about changing the fan speed via a file edit...
