**SOON**
Hi Guys,
While we wait for AMD to make a statement on when BD will finally hit the shelves, pick up a 900 Series motherboard from us! All stock is expected soon (1-2 weeks), but if we get stock sooner, I shall let you know when it arrives!
Pre-order now for a limited time only with 500 Bonus Bytes & FREE DELIVERY for all! :thumb:
Click HERE (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/AMD+AM3%2B+%28900+Chipset%29/).
EDIT: Find a current list of AM3+ Ready Motherboards HERE (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/AMD+AM3%2B+Ready/).
Is there any benchmarks? Ill be buying a new CPU and Motherboard soon but would like to see if Bulldozer beats SandyBridge.

hmm? no price drop. Oh, only free delivery and 500 AB. I think it worths the wait to see if BD can beat i7-2600K.

GAHHHH, need benchmarks :(
Better than SB? ;)
Is it true we can use the AM3 amd cpu's in this... then when bulldozer comes out we can simply swap it?
Just need to know for sure! ;-)
Wow this is tempting, I'm with most other people - benchmarks, benchmarks, benchmarks

Yes i think. backward compatible socket is AMD's strategy.
AM3/AM3+ are compatible, just as AM2/AM2+ are compatible. AM3 cpu can use on AM2/AM2+ mobo, not sure about AM3+ tho.

Yes you can. It fully supports all previous AM3 chips.
Next question would be, is it worth pre-ordering? What's the incentive? What is the RRP once released?
RawZ?
It's AM3+, the 990FX are AM3+.
That awkward moment bulldozer is delayed again.
believe my mobo already supports AM3+ :) which is great news
Depending on benches I may be looking at bulldozer

Kind of happy, gives me time to save up and sell my SB :)
Its all rumours until tommorow mate - AMD press conference will reveal all ;)
Got a feeling Intel will come out on top again in most areas (i.e. the 2500K equivalent won't be as good/price-performance-ratio).

will the cpus not work in my existing 890 series mb?
Kind of happy, gives me time to save up and sell my SB :)
Why would you even do that?
BD's performance isn't out yet. I wouldn't hold much hope of it clocking as far as SB either.
Sounds like Agena all over again.
will the cpus not work in my existing 890 series mb?
Not officially.
Asus have released an AM3+ BIOS on some boards.

Does it have a black CPU socket?

Looks like Intel is one step ahead of AMD or at least prepared for the worst if bulldozer is as good as it's hyped up to be.

Dont think Intel will let AMD have a foothold in the market, they still have a few months due to the Bulldozer delay.
I think it was more to do with 1155.
Socket 2011 is still on target for a Q4 2011 launch. Ivy Bridge (22nm refresh of SandyBridge) was delayed from Q1 to Q2 2012.
Socket 2011 CPU's are not going to be a massive boost from 1155, it's gonna be 4/6 Core CPU's with more cache & Quad Channel RAM.
As for AM3+, there's no reason to delay the motherboards if they can be used on launch for current AM3 CPU's.
There was news of 2011 being pushed back?
No just IB been pushed back
Release 2011 LGA is SB-E

Same as 1155 getting IB refresh :thumb: will happen Q2 2012 march/april

The board on show, a Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3, features four DIMM slots for DDR3 memory - due, we were told, to the X79 making the move to quad-channel memory from triple-channel in the current Sandy Bridge chipset lineup. This, potentially, could lead to an impressive boost in performance over current systems.

Is there a triple-channel SB? Thought only X58 i.e. 1366 has it.
Is there a triple-channel SB?
no but if you use 3 sticks of ram you'll have triple channel :thumb: each dimm slot represents 1 channel so 1 stick of ram = single channel 2 sticks of ram = dual channel 3 sticks of ram = triple channel 4 sticks of ram = quad channel :thumb:
Is there a triple-channel SB? Thought only X58 i.e. 1366 has it.
1366 - Triple Channel (3 or 6 Slots)
1155 - Dual Channel (2 or 4 Slots)
2011 - Quad Channel (4 or 8 Slots)
Each Channel is 64bit & in most cases you can have 2 DIMM's per Channel. Socket 2011 boards so far are all 1 DIMM per Channel (4 Slots).
The question is will it steal the OC crowd from Intel?

And give it back with a few dents in it?
Much of the technology in Bulldozer lends itself to high clocks so they may get a few 7GHz runs out of the odd chip. Most likely the Quad cores though maybe a 6 Core might clock quite high.

Even if it offers better slightly performance I would still go sandy due to upgrade path. It has to be a fair deal better for the average consumer to purchase I would have thought.

That would be the P4 record right? BD may hit 8GHz but 7GHz is more realistic until we know more about how it handles sub zero & high volts.

7GHz is on LN2 or phase exchange cooler, which is not practical for 99.9% of people. So, don't worry too much about that.

AM3+ is for Bulldozer, although you can use current AM3 CPU's with it aswell I think.
What's actually different between AM3 and AM3+. Is it for the new CPUs
AM3+ has 1 extra pin-hole in the socket & other cosmetic changes. The power delivery has been beefed up on AM3+ to guarantee Bulldozer compatability. A fair few AM3 boards will accept Bulldozer but won;t have access to the more advanced power saving, temperature sensors etc.
AMD does not officially support runnig AM3+ chips in AM3 boards so you are wholly reliant on the board manufacturers for BIOS updates & support. AM3 chips (Phenom II etc) will work in all AM3+ boards.

They are due late July.
So long as there are no more delays.
I wish these threads would stop appearing, IMO.. it does nothing but confuse people. If Bulldozer is on its way with some solid info and a date, or info on a delay, then good, lets post about it..
If its just the motherboards, then it would be far less confusing for people to just say that

the bulldozer is a lie
LOL LOL LOL
Bulldozer
Bulldozer is AMD’s next generation CPU design, which we have eagerly been awaiting for quite some time. The first Bulldozer products will ship in Q3 of this year; meaning anywhere between July and September, which is still within the timeframe laid out by earlier rumors of its delay. Zambezi, as rumors previously indicated, is the codename of the desktop part. Server parts should ship at around the same time.
Q3 2011 release now....
Ok ;
B0 revision was unstable.
B1 revision works, but doesn't overclock.
B2 will be stable and overclock (AMD have released parts in the past that didn't OC well, I'm hoping that's what they meant by "Won't overclock" and B2 will clock as well as Intel)
But that begs the question, if B1 is "current", why the hell don't they SHOW that? If performance is there, then show it.

Good question, maybe when the NDA is lifted there will be some B1 Revision benchmark leaks?
Hopefully this isn't some kind of TLB bug again, like Phenom experienced. Seems weird that AMD haven't made any statements on problems, or confirmed or debunked any delay rumours etc.
Maybe it will actually be on time in June? There are no official statments from AMD yet?

I will only wait that long for my birthday or Xmas...
So my Late August to Late September for BD release will be pretty much dead on then.
I am still going to replace my Athlon II system with a 6/8 Core BD based system in 2011 then. Only bought the Athlon II & 785G as a stopgap, it's done alright as a general use machine.
Bulldozer would still be my go-to if it is competitively priced with Intel SB and outperforms them. I am considering waiting till September for my build.

I would just get SB mate, BD won't be any good.
They've had to set the clocks so high (3.8Ghz) to compete and the Chips can't achieve that it seems, they have moved onto a new stepping already to get it stable at higher clocks.
Get a 2500K mate, still some good deals around atm.

Aye well I've got another month until I'm definately going to upgrade so plenty of time to see what happens :). Although like you say, AMD having to raise clocks doesn't sound good. I can imagine this being like the original Phenom, with little OC headroom.

That is a bargain. You can't be blamed for succumbing....to the dark side. I've always had Intel CPUs myself but I'm going to wait and see what happens this time around and maybe even get my first AMD CPU if Bulldozer delivers. If people can wait, there's no harm in waiting. But, for those who are in a hurry to upgrade Sandy Bridge is most definitely the best option.

Yeah but then knowing Intel they will change socket after IB, but with AMD they are more likely to stick to AM3+ going on past longevity so it may be worth going with them if you are likely to upgrade in a years to come and whether you will be wanting to change the motherboard.
I guess it depends on each person, I still can't decide whether to push my budget massively now and get an 2500k or get an AM3+ board and upgrade when I get more money in a few years.

Actually AMD's Trinity the next CPU to replace the upcoming Bulldozer's is supposed to need a new Motherboard again. I guess to use the graphics built into the chip.
Sandybridge makes sense as the best bang for buck atm, then chuck in an Ivybridge CPU early next year, this way you easily get two years high end out of current P67 Z68 motherboards, then if thinking about upgrading again (I change mobo's about every two years) maybe go back to AMD which by then will have a mature CPU with high end Radeon graphics aswell, Trinity crossfire with HD 7000 series GPU's could be awesome for performance, 2012 will be good year for technology!

I predict it isn't :p
I predict it isn't :p
Maybe I should have said, I bet it will be interesting to watch them squirm away from answering why BD is so delayed and not as good as it should be...
Then again, she may give me a few 6970's so I won't care about Bulldozer after that :P

ZDnet says that the 8 core Bulldozer will be around the $320 mark (link (http://www.zdnet.com/blog/computers/amd-reveals-pricing-for-eight-core-bulldozer-processor-320/6098)) or similar pricing to the i7-2600K (£230 Aria price). As I'll be needing an AM3+ board I think I'll wait to see what bundles show up.

Now you are talking.. :D
hmm? no price drop. Oh, only free delivery and 500 AB. I think it worths the wait to see if BD can beat i7-2600K.
Exactly...
i really dont think it will be able to compete with intel ...maby sandybridge (just) but not ivy bridge :knock:
Lets be honest though, either company really could come up with new technology that would skip generations of computing progress. They just continue to keep it at such a steady increase with little between them so they can profit from it. This does mean they ignore what we actually want, that is ultra low power chips that can compete with an above average CPU today and some good ol' 4/8/16bit systems to have fun on and learn how to program properly ;)

Tinfoil hat time? Don't think any of the above is true, it's really not that easy to keep pushing the envelope, they're already starting the reach the point where soon they will have to worry about quantum effects. Rate of growth has pretty much followed moore's law since the mid-60s, and I don't think it's reasonable to suggest that there's been a 50-year conspiracy to limit the rate of performance increase.

With small advances I think that this guy is spot on. Heck you only have to look at their leaked slides to see where they are and how they plan to release products to remain competitive in the market. If they chose to push out their latest and best ASAP people would end up wanting more and more leaving doors open for the competition. If AMD's Bulldozer is barely an improvement of SB then I wouldn't be surprised if Intel left Ivy for a little longer.
I don't see how people could possibly think AMD are 'holding back'. They are having a hard time even keeping up with Intel at the moment, 'holding back' on progress for some imagined financial gain would be suicide. You could maybe make an argument for Intel, but on the other hand the future isn't necessarily clear for them either, ARM based chipsets are making real headway and threatening to break out of the smartphone arena.
Problem with ARM chips is that we don't have much software that can run on both platforms, which (other than the obvious practical usability shortfall) means we can't really gauge their relative performance.

from my understanding the coming cortex A15 may perform around the same as a Q9xxx in thread v thread (obviously lacking x86 and many other instructions but that wont really matter) and they are made to scale in 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 cores ARM are big news, remember they design to demand which gives them a lot of money and a lot of flexibility.
tbh I would like to see ARM chips coming over to computing as it means we have a company which is based in Cambridge doing more for our economy :)
