welcome to the forum!

Those two will not work together as they are different socket types.

Do you have the motherboard or the processor, or neither?

AMD processors use (usually) the AM2 socket, whereas Socket LGA775 (or just socket775) motherboards are for intel processors.

Not yet, i have a Nvidia graphics (AGP x8) card that i would like to carry on using because it allows me to have double monitors,

What would you recommend? I need a good, strong computer to do graphic design on, i use programs like corel, quark, indesign etc

you are going to find it very difficult to find a modern board that has an AGP port.

If you are just after a system with dual monitors, 99% of modern (PCI-E) graphics cards have dual monitor support, (even some motherboards have quality graphics built in with dual monitor support too!

My £300 EEE PC has dual monitor - although I think it's just cloned :)

As said, most graphics cards will provide dual monitor support. Get a cheap-ish Socket 775 motherboard and a Core 2 Duo, then the best graphics card you can for your budget

On which note - what is your budget? It might be easier to suggest parts if we know what you want to spend.

sell your card on fleabay to help cover the costs and that should see you fine for a while, even add a gpu card later and do hybrid sli, 4 screens :D but id bet that will need a psu upgrade too.
