This ain't looking too clever, took old card out, new one is and it wanter a driver even though it's the same card, unintalled ati drivers, downloaded 11.5 and tried again, it shows in device manager ok, so a head scratcher at the moment.

ran driver cleaner yet scrivz69 - drivers are notorious for getting in a pickle, it may be the same gpu, but it being a different edition with different features it'll be getting in a mess about what it can and can't do.

When I've changed ATI cards, I get that message, but Windows 7 usually sorts it out with a restart.
Done that DT, after a little messing all is well ccc is working and recognises the card ok, ati drivers are a pain in the butt.

It's some type of metal cooling plate that separates the PCB from the heatsink fins. Or that's what it seems like coz my xfx 4870 has the same thing
The BE card is an inch longer than the already massive 5850 :eek:

You make it sound like you've swapped one card straight for another :S?
And 3Dmark06 is CPU bottlenecked.

black edition is something like a 20Mhz core upgrade and a 100Mhz(x5, gddr5) ram increase, same number of cores and ofc a new start on a warranty which at that price isn't a bad thing.

You won't see a difference with 20mhz, more consistent perhaps.
The memory speed won't do anything, reference cards were fitted with the 1250mhz chips from the 5870's.
Off to work soon, so I ain't got time to try xfire yet, I will have to shift my soundcard around, to get the other card in, I am impressed, the card hit 181fps in canyon flight and I ain't seen that, it's also very quiet and the fan does not spin up at all.

It's sat at 43 mate and hit 70 on the vantage run I did, but the fan is very quiet and never spun up.

It looks quieter than the crappy stock coolers thanks to the decent fan. My stock cooler which looks the same as ur stock cooler is LOUD lol!
My other card is a little louder but it has never bothered me.

These cards do run lovely and cool but I have to figure out how to make my own profile as I would rather the card stayed cool and the fan ramped up than it stayed quiet .

Pick an OC utility like MSi Afterburner, set your fan speeds & limits etc, and you're done :)

you can only do manual override through CCC msi afterburner you can set what speed you want the fan at each temperature I always end up doing it with cards i find the fan fires up to a loud speed at too high a temperature for me

Well thought I secured the last one, but just got an e-mail from Aria saying that it is "currently not available and has been discontinued" AKA they no longer have stock.
Been offered the bog standard XFX 5850 at the same price, but it isn't such a good deal! :(
