View Full Version : Charity Site Looking for a Developer

Hi guys,

I did a quick botch site for a local rescue center a couple of years ago that is in desparate need of some help. I run and am currently trying to grow my own business (Timber Frame House Manufacturer) and redevelop my home. This means I just can't make the time to learn how to design half decent websites.

I have paid for and will continue to pay for the hosting and domain. Likewise I am happy to keep someone in coffee or buy them a few beers for helping out. Unfortunately that and some gratitude from the charity, the animals and myself is about all I can offer.

The site needs the following, all of which want to be content updatable in a WYSIWYG editor by the charity themselves:

HOME (with contact details)
NEWS & EVENTS
ANIMALS
(SUCESS STORIES) - Stage 2 maybe

If you really want to get fancy adding things like easy to create gallerys and youtube links for the animals would clearly be an advantage. As would comments sections provided working to approved comments only. I would also specify that I would like to use wordpress and mainstream plugins if possible. It makes it easy to update and for anyone to help with it.

Do you need any design work done?

Will be able to assist in that department from 10th June for 12 weeks.

Awesome. Are either of you familiar with Wordpress (or want to be)? Let me know what you need to get going and whether you fancy having a crack at being a team on this?

The ideal web team is normally a designer (i.e. someone with graphical flair) and a coder. Wordpress with plugins makes the coding fairly easy if you take the time. It is also an industry standard so well worth learning.

The design side will largely consist of creating and testing templates, logo and maybe a bit of Photoshoping some animal photos. The coding will involve researching available addins, configuring them to act as requried and setting them all within the templates to give an attractive finished product.

One thing I can offer is a reference as a business owner/manager if any help for you in the future. You are also more than welcome to advertise your services on the footer.

Sounds like we have a team. I will give you guys access to the Cpanel for the domain. From there I would suggest the best plan is to build it in a seperate folder (e.g. /preview). We can move it to root when it is ready for the public.

I am not on MSN much, but am on here. Will send you more info by PM.

Thanks for the unbreaking on the original site. For some reason your last couple of messages on this don't seem to have set the subscription off so didn't realise you were off the exams and active :thumb:

Plus projects like this are great for the CV if someone is looking to get into that field and build a portfolio

Hi Rhydian, any help is appreciated. Do you feel that sponsorship type banner ads would be a possibility for this site?

Do you mean if they will help find charitable people to donate or rehome a dog? Because I'm sure they would :D
