I dont think I have many on this computer, but i'll post a couple of the ones I do have :)

One of the many grasshoppers that ended up in the house:
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w19/adunne_2007/e4e5f253.jpg

Scorpion that found its way into the girls bedroom and I ended up removing with a glass, a bit of paper, and my hands.. Slightly scary experience.. Its not a great quality photo, but I think its still quite interesting..
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w19/adunne_2007/99852ca0.jpg

I'll try and find some more :)

A tow home.

Apologies on this last one, a panoramic picture of Scrabo tower reaching round to strangford lough. Not the best quality but looks amazing on my screens in work.

Aaron, where do you live to be getting scorpions? I heard the big black ones aren't deadly (you'll just be in some pretty average agony for a couple of days), it's the little ones you want to watch for!

Aaron
10-09-08, 12:21
Those were in Croatia earlier this year.. and yeah, I've heard that too, but only after I'd got it out of the house, using the glass and persuasive fingers - that one was about 1.5 inches, so it was one of the really small ones :O

Aaron
10-09-08, 12:24
Although, I am in Devon, and there are some weird scorpion like things that appear every so often tho.. Kinda like a long ****roach with pincers and a tail that raises up and stings. I've not ever been stung by one, but its got the cat before and some friends - apparently its just like a wasp sting..

alexnifty
10-09-08, 12:31
Yeah I think those scorpions have been imported on fruit! Apparently its warm enough for them to breed in the south.

My experience with scorpions is on holiday in Egypt, we used to go looking for them under rocks. We stopped that little game when we discovered Egyptian Cobra!

I intend to take more macro shots and shots worthy of a desktop wallpaper, but first I need a better camera. I really want a DSLR, but can't afford one at the moment. I use a Fujifilm Finepix A825.

Here's my favourite macro shot. I haven't taken many others yet:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y206/akaCol/DSCF0853.jpg

In my front garden.

I've got another one of a rose in my back garden, but I can't find it at the moment. I haven't ventured far yet to take my pictures...

coiler
19-09-08, 13:09
it looks like the sun was out in the other half of the photo, and this was in the shade?

Col
09-10-08, 18:18
Yeah, the sun was really bright that day. I thought it made some really nice shadows personally. It's a favourite effect of mine to have the background of a photo darker and blurred.

The reason for the unbalanced lighting was because I couldn't really get a better angle without putting my own shadow in it. The right side of the photo is facing the sun, the left side is facing a wall, which is visible there.

Ran the auto colour balance filter in Photoshop CS, then selected the flower and hoverfly with the magic wand tool and increased the brightness by 12% and the contrast by 3%.

Hope you see a good difference :D

EDIT: If I could be more bothered (and I might yet) I would select the bright stuff in the top right and lower its brightness.

The thing I really like about that photo is the way the petals aren't perfect, you have these big chunks taken out by a caterpillar or something and one is totally missing. Lots going on and it looks real and interesting.

A couple taken with my semi cheap compact, indoor macro shots under artificial light never come out fantastic but i am reasonably happy with these considering the camera cost under £100. One with and one without flash, i'll let you work out which is which ;). This is as they come, no touching up / altering etc.

I use a Nikon Coolpix S51. It is a little camera that you can lose in your shirt pocket but it takes great macro close ups. I wouldn't change it for any other camera.

LOL now that IS a quality pic and must have been quite close as it looks like the flash was used, Robins can become quite tame, if you are lucky they will feed from your hand. We have a Robin visit our garden regularly and you can get quite close to it but i doubt i could get a pic like that one.

Awesome! I should have done that before I submitted the picture to FujiFilm for their monthly competition. One of these days I'll nearly get to 3rd place!

Being out in the country means there's lots of opportunity to get good natural photos, but getting close to anything living is difficult. I should have cut Simon11's hoverfly out of his photo and pasted it onto mine. Much better!

Last year in October, Fuji's chosen photo genre wasn't really in time with the year. I can't remember what it was. This year though, I'll be out looking for "Spooks and bangs". I try to keep my eyes peeled for good photo opportunities just for the sake of entering that competition each month. I don't actually mind not winning either - I just like taking photos, and trying to enter each month is like regular practice.

Click this http://forums.aria.co.uk/images/aria_style/editor/insertimage.gif in your message toolbar, and then paste the URL of your picture into the box.

EDIT: For really huge photos which will break the forum, please consider using:

[screenshot] tags.

To attach them as per Alex's instructions you will first need to upload them to something like a photobucket account. Once you have done this you should be able to lin to them via the instructions above.
