I've got one but it's too big to fit on anyones screen, even those with dual 24" setups lol... plus it's not the best pic...

Its of Stockport/Manchester/Oldham/Hyde/Ashton and is about 4000pixels wide...

coiler
09-09-08, 15:38
scale it down!

jonwoad
09-09-08, 15:39
I would do but then so much detail would be lost :D

Aaron
09-09-08, 15:40
Better to loose some detail in scaling it down, than loose ALL the detail by not posting it at all.. ;)

jonwoad
09-09-08, 15:42
lol, I'll see what I can do, was taken a couple of years ago when I wasnt so experienced.

jonwoad

yup, from memory is about 9 or 10 pics

Aaron
09-09-08, 15:47
Ah thats cool.. I did some like that when I was in Bosnia a few years ago, but they didnt come out so well.. I'm just trying to find somewhere to upload a couple of pics I took this summer.. I'll post back in a bit! :)

jonwoad
09-09-08, 15:48
hopefully i've still got the originals then I can edit them and recreate the panorama :)

Aaron

Ok, here they are.. This was a sunset that happened on the first night I was in Croatia this year. These photos were straight off the camera - no photoshopping at all - the only thing I did was reduce the size of them. It was a pretty amazing sunset! :)

Aaron

The only problem is that my photos were taken on a normal 35mm camera, and I cant remember which order the photos go in

jonwoad

some good colouring there!

I have this (http://jon390.fotopic.net/p41831519.html) picture blown up to A2 in my living room :)

Aaron

No - didnt have time to set anything on the camera before the sunset disappeared, and didnt have a tripod with me.. Just opened the lens and took the photos! :)

I noticed that one when I had a look at your gallery - I like.. 350D is about 8mp image size isnt it? Does it do A2 prints pretty well?

jonwoad
09-09-08, 16:02
it is 8mp with the same sensor as it's bigger brother the 30D... A2 is nothing for the 350D, can go bigger!

Aaron
09-09-08, 16:04
What's the most you reckon you could push it to without loosing quality?

jonwoad
09-09-08, 16:14
well from what I've read most people say 12"x18" but thats around A3 size, but I have no problems with it being A2, may even push it up to A1 if I could afford to

coiler
09-09-08, 16:14
can you reccomend anywhere to get pics blown up to wooden frame canvas style? good price and service?

Aaron
09-09-08, 16:18
That was my next question..

jonwoad
09-09-08, 16:20
erm not off the top of my head... cant remember where I had mine done but it cost about 8-9quid inc p&p but it was done quite a while back

Aaron
09-09-08, 16:27
Thats a really good price!

jonwoad
09-09-08, 16:28
Jessops online have 20" (slightly smaller than A1) prints for 16.99, they do canvas too

coiler
09-09-08, 16:36
£8-9 including postage is a SNAP! LOL

(see what i did there?)

what size do you reckons 6mp would blow up to?

jonwoad
09-09-08, 16:37
Very good :)

should go up to A3 easily :)

jessops add 1.99 p&p but you can collect in the store which is quite handy

coiler
09-09-08, 16:45
£8-£9 was including wooden frame thingy?

jonwoad
09-09-08, 16:46
oh sorry, mine is just on glossy paper... i added a frame to it later

Aaron
09-09-08, 16:47
Thats where it starts to get costly.. A 16"x24" canvas print and wooden thing is £60 from jessops..

jonwoad
09-09-08, 16:49
you can get paper that looks like canvas though

Aaron
09-09-08, 16:50
Just slightly back on topic, I took this one when I was in Venice on the way back from Croatia.. Its not really a landscape, but I quite like it :) Just a shame that the boats arent gondolas in this one..

Has anyone tried doing HDR photography? There are some amazing examples online.. Its basically, taking a series of different exposures to pick up as much of the dark and light areas of the picture, and then combine them all to make a single photo.. I havent quite managed to get up to that standard, but this is my best attempt:

Lynx

Aaron
19-11-08, 11:22
Yeah.. But the easier way is a program called Photomatix. You can get more varied results in photoshop, but photomatix generally gets the same as the best result you'd get in photoshop. Much quicker too..

coiler
20-04-09, 12:17
run down the 3 different shots I need to do a HDR shot??

ps. pic looks cracking

Aaron
20-04-09, 12:41
Its basically a number of different exposures. Mine has a setting which will take a burst of 3 shots at +1.0, 0.0 and -1.0 - thats ok for a starter and to get your head around it or just for a quick shot, but I find it doesnt always give as much depth as you need.. The way I do it is:

1) Find a solid surface or use a tripod
2) Make sure the camera won't move each time you press the shutter button - I do this by tightening everything on the tripod, and then setting a 2 second timer. The camera will always move slightly when you press the shutter, so the 2 second delay give everything a chance to settle back before the picture is taken.
3) I tend to use 4 or 5 different exposures, by changing the shutter speed. Normally I'll go from something like a 1sec shutter, through to 1/1600 - 1/2000 ish, but obviously that needs to be adapted on the day.

The 3 key things are making sure that the camera doesnt move between shots, getting a good range of exposures and then picking the right photos to use. You don't have to use all the photos you take :)

coiler
20-04-09, 14:55
makes sense you get all the best bits out of each colour range in the final pic.

I really like HDR shots, some people are really against them. For what reason i'm not sure?

I think my camera has a shutter speed program, specifically for doing the above adjustments.

This other program which makes it easier than photoshop is it free?

Aaron
20-04-09, 15:21
erm.. it can be. But no...

Aaron

I'd really like to get a bike.. Just for local journeys, and the odd proper road trip. The roads around here are pretty good - I think it'd be so much fun!

How much does it cost to get a bike licence these days?

mac124
16-05-09, 19:44
Probably the same as it does a car?

Take the CBT before being allowed to ride on the road, take a few lessons, take your test (dependant on which test you take) restricted to a 30hp bike for a couple of years, get a unrestricted bike.

Least thats how it used to be??

Monkey
17-05-09, 11:36
I think your about right, CBT is about £90 I think, and your theory is about £50

And your bike bike test is like £150 last time I heard :(

mac124
17-05-09, 12:07
If you pass your theroy test to take a car test would you have to do it again for a bike test, assuming you do it within the 2 year period the theory test is valid for?

Monkey
20-05-09, 22:02
Nope, if you've already done it and are on the road in a car you just have to do your full nike test, i beleive so anyway.
