View Full Version : Vista Ultimate SP1 device issues

Hi,

I recently upgraded my Vista Ultimate 32 installation to Service Pack 1. I've got an Asrock nForce 650i SLi board with 3 PCI-E slots (one x16, two x8 when used in SLi) with a single XFX 8600GTS installed. I also installed the June 2008 GeForce and latest motherboard drivers sometime before the SP1 install.

After the install completes, the system does not register that the 8600GTS is installed and Devmgmt flags three system devices labelled as 'PCI-Express standard Root Port(s)' as having resource allocation issues. I disabled the two instances that were registered as 'PCI 0, Device 6' and 7 as the port my 8600 is installed on is labelled as port 3 on the board.

After a restart, nothing has changed. Display Settings also does not register that the monitor is running from any GPU. I think it might be that SP1 is incompatible with my bios revision, but flashing a bios on a £50 motherboard is not something I can afford to get wrong.

Anyone else had this issue? Any recommendations?

Thanks a lot,

Lee

have you installed ALL the mobo drivers off disk?

I'm just trying a reinstall of those drivers now.
Funny thing is, I upgraded from XP SP3 with the drivers off the disk and vista did not throw any issues with those drivers when it installed. I then went and installed the driver updates from nVidia's website (which I am assuming correspond to the drivers on the support cd) in order to get Frontlines to play smoothly.

During the SP1 install, I had to use my Home Premium Lite DVD to repair an ACPI.sys corruption - don't know if that is relevant or not.

Thanks for your time

Sorry to double post and thanks to Coiler (and anyone who took the time to glance over the thread), but I've reverted back to RTM and everythings back to normal.

Thanks,
Lee

if you have any issues try the latest mobo driver from nvidia as they should work fine with v sp1, well it works fine on my asus nf650.

Hey, sorry for not replying.
Turns out it was more of an issue with some additional updates used in support of SP1. I rolledback the system twice, removing two updates and restored it a third time to the point entitled 'Installing: Service Pack 1'.

After that completed, Windows reinstalled my 8600 and system properties shows that SP1 is still installed.

Cheers for taking the time to reply
