This system is being built for a friend and I thought I would do a build log as I built it.
I am using a Retail Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160 using the stock cooler, An Asrock Wolfdale1333-D667 R2.0 Motherboard and a Patriot PC6400LLC 2Gb Kit.

To aid anyone who is new to building an Intel 775 system I am including various photos of the build process.

CPU in the Socket ready for the heat sink to be installed. Once the cooler is installed turn the board over and check that all the pins are correctly locked in

Next I installed the 2GB of Patriot PC6400 DDR2 Ram,

Please note that this board does not support ram over DDR2 5300, but the price of this ram at the time of purchase made it a “no brainer”

The board with the CPU, Cooler and the Ram was then placed into the case, (please note the floppy cable running behind tehind the board) The Hard Disk, Floppy, optical drives and case headers have all been connected.

The PSU (a Jeantech 400w) has been installed and connected to each device. Please note the less than perfect position of the 24 pin power connector really shows. The build is now complete.

Here is a picture of the right hand side of the case with the sides still off.

The only problem i found with the board is that there is only one USB connector, and when i tried to plug in my mums card reader to it i found it was already being used by the case USB, (when i say being used i had plugged it in there myself :P)

Oh.... and i cant get it to do anything.....

there are 3 usb headers available!

1 x 9 pin, 1 x 4 pin next to the 9 pin and 4 pins of the wifi connector can be used as an header too

And they will work?

yep. Unlike your build, this one is working like a dream, even falshed it with a slic mod ;) The owner is a very happy lady having gone from a Sempron 2800+ 1Gb to a pentium Dual Core e2160 +2Gb

Thanks for that, my pc wont boot and yours is almost the same and works fine...

Still no clues as to what i can do... gonna have all day tomorrow to look at it...

Not actually do anything... just look at it :P

Gonna take it out of the case and try it.

Do you think it could be anything to do with the cables being cut on the case or anything like that?

could be something silly like the case shorting somewhere, I have seen one person build a pc with the io backplate grounding tabs in the usb and lan sockets instead of on top of the socket block.

Ok, would it be worth taking pictures and posting them on my other thread tomorrow?

possibly, it may be you just have a dead board of course...

And that would mean RMA wouldnt it?

And how long do i have to do that cos im going to leeds tommorrow until monday

you won't know that for sure until you fully test it.

If it were me, I'd do what you are going to do and take it out of the case, but I think i'd actually re-rebuild it starting from the ground up..

And start with just the essentials (ie, cpu, gfx, 1 stick of ram).. No optical/Hard drives, and just see if you can get it to post. if it doesnt, try another stick of ram maybe?

Once you get it to post with the bare essentials, add in more components, one at a time. :)

I can't agree with you more, I did suggest this in Monkey's original thread.

I can't remember from that thread what psu you are using. but it may be worth, albeit it's a pain to do, is use the psu from your pc in case it's a faulty psu casuing the issue.
