View Full Version : bsod on new gaming pc
Hi,
I received a Exudios gaming pc on friday and ive been having some problems. It gives me a blue screen with error 0x00000124 and says there is a hardware error. It seems to happen at random times and not just when i stress any of the components. I have checked all the temps and they are all fine. I was wondering if anyone had any sugestions as i don't want to send it back!! Cheers
BTW specs are CPU- i5 2500k @4.5 Mhz
RAM- 4 gb Muskin blackline
GPU- HD radeon 6950
750 watt crosair power supply
MSI P67A-GD65 MOBO
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Googling suggests its an issue with your overclock. Try stress testing the RAM with memtest to see if that kicks up any issues.

I have already run tests on my ram and it comes back fine. If it is the overclock i really have no clue what to do? also if i change anything is my warranty valid? thanks for the suggestion
I would recommend loading the default values in the bios (removing the overclock) and seeing if that stabilises the system.
If it runs stable then it's definately the overclock settings, which you/we can then try tweaking or you can try and RMA it.
Given that you've said it blue-screens regardless of stress I'm assuming it's not heat related but worth downloading CoreTemp or RealTemp and checking the cpu temps just in case :)
The overclock settings should be stored in the BIOS profiles anyway so you won't lsoe them :)
Thanks ill go try that now. I have a temp reader everything is below 40 when idle and below 50 when gaming.
concur it may just need the OC lowering a little
I had the same issue with my PC from Aria. All I did was just lower the overclock from 4.6 to 4.5.
It was actually really easy to do I just went into the bios and lowered the multiplier from 46 to 45 leaving the volts as they were. In your case I would suggest trying 4.4ghz and seeing how you get on.
When I posted this issue before various people suggested it was an issue with not enough volts, so it was either a case of lowering the overclock or upping the volts.
hey,
Cheers for the sugestions guys. I wasent sure about changing stuff in bios so i pressed the OC button on my motherboard to see what that would overclock my cpu to. Its running at 4.2 and has been stable so far. Ill write back at end of day to tell say if its fixed. Thanks again:thumb:
ah nice idea, so that overwrote the 4.5 overclock and did an auto overclock thing?
4.2ghz is still a decent clock especially if it gives stability.
hope it's sorted :thumb:
saying that if it was the overclock that was causing the error then you may want to look at rma/warranty if you feel you're losing out on what you paid for.
depends how long you can bear to be without it ;)
@coiler. Yeh it just overwrote the 4.5 overclock and its running at 4.2. If this is stable I think ill just leave it @Spaceboy. I live in Ireland and the difference between 4.5 and 4.2 is not worth not having the computer for a month or so plus the hassle of sending it back!!
Surely tho, and i know that people probably will not agree.
But if you buy a overclocked bundle from aria, that says its overclocked to 4.4 etc etc. And you get it and it's unstable, then surely aria would have to take it back, as they say they test it etc at that speed, and advertise that speed?.

gmunday, I think you're absolutely right that if the o/c is indeed unstable then Aria are obliged to offer an RMA service.
However, I completely understand the OP's perspective that time and effort to return the kit could well not be worth the 300MHz performance drop that she will most likely not notice anyway. After all, even with a couple of day turnaround she's probably looking at 2 weeks minimum with shipping + potential costs + potential risk of damage due to transit.
If the OP is happy to tweak the settings to make it stable then that's her choice and we should respect that :) She may well decide to fiddle further to get the o/c back again in future, and then we have the start of another dedicated overclocker on our hands :D
That fair enough if they want to keep it.
Just wondered about it...
Also remember that not all the CPUs are the same. A load of identical CPU such as the 2500k will not perform the same or overclock the same. Plus despite stress testing they can't test everything. I was quite happy to drop from the 4.6 that I paid for to a 4.5 as really that difference I won't notice.
You are technically right that what you pay for you should get, but my order, delivery time and end product was superb so I am not going to make a load of fuss over .1ghz.
Aye, we do stress test each individual bundle for a pretty solid period, but sometimes (a fairly small percentage of the time, fortunately) it gets to the customer, gets installed into a different case in a different environment and a previously stable overclock becomes less stable. We try to leave a little margin for error but every now and again this will happen because overclocking involves so many variables.
At which point it's up to the customer to choose between ditching the overclock entirely (many people don't really care about the overclock, it's just a nice extra which they don't really need), tweaking the settings to a more stable level with the help of customer services or sometimes people on these forums, or returning the bundle which they are of course entitled to do if not satisfied.
HI guys
Its been running fine since half 10 now @ 4.2. However it did that before with the 4.5 overclock in so i wont know for certain if its the overclock for a while yet. Since Im not 100 percent sure its the overclock yet, there is [as of yet] no reason to bash aria for a bad overclock!! To be fair to aria everything else so far has been great. They even installed windows for me when i didn't ask them to! :thumb:. The system never ran for longer then 8 hours with the overclock so if its hits this mark at 6 30 today ill post it. Again thanks for all the help:)
if it ends up running fine now at 4.2ghz, then it more than likely was the overclock and would just require an increase to the vcore (from what was previously set) to run at 4.5ghz again.

The vcore was 1.337 which is making me think someone just wanted it at that level ha! If i switched back to the 4.5 overclock and changed the vcore would that breach the warranty??
hmm i very much doubt it but dont quote me on that :p
my 2500k runs fine at 4.5ghz with vcore at auto, which raises to about 1.28v when stressed, but 4.6ghz and higher requires a manual increase to the voltage, and like they say each chip is different.
4.2ghz is still beasty but yeh im not sure how annoyed you would be that you arnt getting the performance you paid for.

If my system is now stable at 4.2[ fingers crossed] i would not be that annoyed to be honest. It was a "free overclocking to 4.5" so i suppose i didn't really pay for it. If this is stable at 4.2 I would be very happy with this system. so far 5 hours at 4.2 no bsod.:)
on the flipside @4.2ghz i guess cooler running temps, less power consumption, and longer lifespan on the chip. (i dont personally OC cpu's and run all my stuff at stock, so 4.2ghz is a nice OC in my eyes)
VS
worst case sending it back to aria/tweaking over phone
hey i have ran my system all day at 4.2 and have got no bsods. It seems to have been an unstable overclock. I'm happy I have this resolved for now! Cheers for sugestions:thumb:
