Hi there i have the
Dominator 560Ti Gaming PC
and have downloaded from msi website the 'MSI Live Update 5' utility after scanning the system
it says there is an update for the MS BIOS for item MS-7681 (think this is the MSI P67A-GD65 model number) from 1.8D to 1.B0 , if i install this will i loose my aria overclock ? please can someone explain where the overclock is located as i wish to avoid loosing this , thanks

At a guess, yes you will lose your overclock settings. If you want to keep them and still install the update then you will have to go into the bios and write down every setting you currently have, especially taking note of the voltage and speed settings on your components. Then, back up the current bios settings to hard disk before you install the update. If the update then wipes every setting then you will need to re-enter the old settings.

Some newer BIOSes have the ability to save profiles to a thumb drive, that might be an option.

think i will leave it alone then another issue i had i wonder if someone can help me with is was when i tried to plug my sata 2 HDD into the sata 3 plug in the motherboard , it would not boot , i guess that's normal ? i guess i will have to unplug one of the red cables (e sata ?) and plug into one of those (there are 2) , cheers

Unless you are having compatibility issues you don't need to update your BIOS really.

The harddisk issue will be your boot order, it sounds like its trying to boot from the drive you're plugging in and not the one that's there. You need to go into the BIOS after you plug the new drive in and make sure the right drive is the top of the boot priority list.

I don't really know the msi BIOS well enough to give you a better description tbh but the manual should explain where this setting is.

Tbh I've got the same board and I updated my BIOS to latest and it's been a nightmare so far, the BIOS beeps have actually changed and my OC has gone unstable I need to do some tweaking.. if it's all working fine then there's no point updating it matey.

Don't unless you have issues with it, especially if it's an MSI board. They're horrible for BIOS flashing.

This a common question i see on forums in general not just here and our Cserve receive countless calls regarding issues after BIOS updates.

The plain and simple fact is that if you Flash/Upgrade your Bios you will lose all saved profiles and the Motherboard will revert to its default settings.

Here in systems we ALWAYS flash the Bios to the very latest firmware before we apply the Overclock settings then we save 2 profiles for the customer. So there should be no need for the customer to do any Flash/Upgrades of their Bios and a good rule of thumb would be to save your profile to a Flash/Pen drive in case of any corruption or issues.

Hope this helps anyone else with this kind of issue.

IF IT'S NOT BROKE DON'T FIX IT.
