Seems the freezing i was experiencing with the 3450 in my media center pc (specs in sig) hasn't been fixed at all with the upgrade to the 3870 as it just happened again, twice in quick succession, so as you can imagine i am not happy.

So any ideas? Two cards both Ati doing the same within media centre whilst viewing live tv and the system runs fine on an Nvidia 8600gts? I am suspecting sh!tty Ati drivers tbh but am open to other suggestions. I would like to try and get this sorted as i have a Blue Ray drive waiting to be installed and i would rather utilise graphics hardware capabilities to decode it than cpu and software.

strange,

my 3650 runs like a dream on an intel system, as I posted in your original thread.

Your PC is way more powerfull, have you tried with cool n quiet disabled?

CnQ is disabled, always has been. I don't think its a power thing, as in processing power. Seems odd it's only with Ati cards hence my suspicion of drivers being the culprit.

Reinstalled drivers since swapping card?

Vista or XP?

The test I did for you was Vista x86.

Vista and yes drivers were uninstalled inbetween changing cards.

I am stumped, which TV card are you using?

Mines the 3010ix i won in the review comp.

The ATI driver I am using is 8.512 ccc v2008.0703.2236.38526

Tv card is Terratec Cynergy 2400i and drivers are latest available from ati's download page (Driver Packaging Version 8.512-080703a-066913C-ATI & Catalyst® Control Center Version 2008.0703.2236.38526) so snap there.

Might have a bash at omega drivers, but not holding out alot of hope tbh.

Omega's would have been my suggestion. Worth a shot.

Seems there aren't any omega drivers for vista / ati??

Unless thats not the omega drivers page??

Might try just drivers and ditch CCC later.

dna drivers i think are the best for ati.

have you checked vistas powr saving settings? its got options for pcie lanes and it effected my my folding because it didnt send enough power to it when it thought it was only doing 2d stuff.

Dna drivers, will check them out cheers.

Just had a thought, my tv card is pci express and when i had my old 7600gt in there the cooler blocked the pcie x1 slot so i put it in the 2nd gfx card slot, you reckon moving it to the now free pcie x1 slot might help?

Think i'll try it when i get home anyway.

My 3010ix is PCI-E too, in my case my Asus (P5K-VM) only hase 2 PCI-E slots 3650 in 16x and the 3010ix in the 1x.

I wonder if the driver on my Pinnacle plays better with the ATI driver than your Terratec?

God knows mate, all i know is nothing i have tried so far has made a difference, i have moved the tv card to the pcie x1 slot, tried bare ati drivers (no ccc) and i am now downloading dna drivers as a last resort if those don't work, well i guess i basically have 3 options stick with nvidia as ati drivers obviously don't like my set up or switch so my media pc is just a dedicated media pc and use my 3rd pc as my every day machine or put up with it for now as recodring and playback seem ok its just live tv that is an issue (and tbh i don't use it to watch live tv very often)

or buy a pinnacle card?

That means spending more money :( plus its only effectively a single tuner, mine is dual dvb.

DNA drivers were a big failure, if anything they were worse than Ati drivers as they crashed spectacularly in windows.

yea?

i know a couple of lads who swear by them, saying that their more gamers than anything so...

sorry to hear it tho, did you try the other slot?

could it be sharing the irq thingie with somthing else?

mac124

Possibly geared more towards single screen setups?

I moved the tv card if thats what you mean? The second gfx slot is only x4 iirc so no point fitting any gfx card in there.

Anyone else see the irony of an Ati card not working properly in an AMD setup?

The 3010ix is a dual DVB tuner!

You sure about that all the specs i have seen for it say it is a hybrid digital / analog card, got a linky?

Hang on getting confuzzled, "DUAL HYBRID" as in 2x hybrid tuners? 2x analog / dvb tuners?

wonderlust

I can record 2 DVB channels at once :D

I don't use the Pinnacle software, just VMCE but you loose Pic in pic and Analogue, but analogue looks rubbish on an lcd Monitor anyway :D

Hmm well fingers crossed, at the risk of tempting fate, i might not need to change anything. I have rolled back to previous version of CCC and so far so good, 45mins of live tv and no crashes, just started recording on a 2nd channel too so i guess time will tell.

That card might be worth a try though at £18ish.

Yup there we go as soon as i closed down IE and maximised MCE it locked solid, this is RAPIDLY starting to p!ss me off, dunno why as i almost NEVER watch live tv through it but it bugs the hell out of me knowing it doesn't work properly.

yes, I can guess, The only time mine crashes is when I try folding in the background while watching recorded tv (with the 3650 clocked to 850/550 from 725/500)

no overclock no crash
