Ok, NO overclock.. E6700 (2.66) with Freezer 7 Pro in a 3dAurora with stock fans. "enough" heat paste and the HS it definatally seated right.

Using Coretemp.. 50-53 idle and ive seen it over 72 in things like Grid and Assassins Creed. Both cores read with in a degree of each other. It runs perfectly stable with no slow down or crashes.

Too hot? I have a feeling it might be but whats wrong?

I am thinking there is some sort of airflow issue?

I thought those cases had good airflow. How long have you had the case? Maybe the dust filter on the air intake is clogged.

It is also very hot weather at the moment, is this something you have observed only recently or has it always been like this?

What other components do you have in your case?

Other things can contribute to a hot processor, ie hot HDDs, chipset, graphics card/cards.

The airflow in those cases is not wonderfull, I would recommend replacing the fans for somthing a better.

Have you tried running with the side of the case off?

You can prove it's an airflow issue by simply running with the side off, also airflow needs a decent entry / exit. Cases with the best airflow ar no good if placed in a restricted space.

Filter is clear, cleaned it not long ago. Nothing round it other than the screen so the air in and out are fine. Also the path trough the case is good.

Not sure actually how long its been like this as I only recently got Core temp, I had been using the MSI software that came with the MB (Dual Core Centre I think it is). I reinstalled that this morning to see if they are still the same as i was getting before and they are within a few degrees (35-40ish at idle with is reading the case internal just a few deg less) I think thats a board mounted thermister though which is why I got coretemp for better readings, but they have read about that with the MSI software since I built it 18months ago.

I hear what your saying about the other parts HDD, Chipset, GPU and so on, but these temps are after hours of not doing anything. In games where its pushing my GPU to 80-90deg then the air in the case will be warmer and I would expect the cooling to be less effective.

What worries me slightly is that I was running a basic FSB over clock to get 3ghz so christ knows what the temps were, but that was rock solid too.

I will take the side off for a while to see if it drops any, I have dont that before when I was worried about my GPU temp with the 88GTX. It didnt seem to change the "CPU Temp" in the MSI program but i didnt have coretemp at the time.

the boards cpu reading is in the socket, coretemp is reading from in the cpu.

what do you mean by "enough" thermal paste? only most people use more than is really needed.

edit

also whats your vcore?

I guessed that, but thought I better check with the same software as I had been using.

small blob in the middle of the heat spreader

also whats your vcore?

CPU-Z says 1.13-1.28 depending on the multiplier (x6 or x10)

sweet i was just making sure you was aware ^^

which type of paste did you use as this can play a big part in it?

if your concerned about the temp readings from the software with your mobo have you checked it with other software to see if they all agree?
