Hey folks,

My PSU died on me earlier today and i've been looking at what to replace it with. I had a ATX-450PNF and after shutting my computer down it wouldn't start up again after choking a few times. The motherboard LED was still on so i dont think its anything to do with that.

I have a -

AMD X2 5200+ CPU
2x 1GB Cossair DDR2 Ram
Nvidia GeForce 7600gt
320gb Sata II (with XP Home SP3)
500gb Sata II
on a Asus M2V-MX Motherboard.

Im looking for cheapest reliable PSU, as i dont intend to upgrade my machine any further (i will probably buy/build a new one), just looking for something to keep me going.

Any advice would be great! Im lost in specification details at the moment on PSU's and dont wanna buy the wrong one.

Basically you want to be buying a psu made by a reputable company.
OCZ for example. StealthXStream or GamesXStream 600w are solid units, and I think they're on SuperSpecial too. Plus it should be enough too last you for another upgrade.

Corsair are pretty good too, any of their 500+ should do you fine
Power PC and cooling are reputable.

500W will cover you for now, 650 should handle your next upgrade aswell. 750+ if you want to push the boat out now or in the near future.

PCP&C Silencer 470 if your really on a budget, excellent psu's

Was it a generic PSU that died, that could be a problem?

A google says it was a FSP Group 450W unit. These are actually very good PSU's. However, it does show that any PSU can technically fail but rather in a manner that doesn't nail your other components.

I'd nab an OCZ GameXstream 600W for only £44

Cheers for the advice people. I'll have a look at the gaming PSU in the above post and see what i have in my local area - rather than pay postage. Weigh up whats best!

And i will also try giving my current a damn good clean first, i had a look and it looks as though it was stood next to a construction site
