Can't say I ever had much time for Novell, having dealt a little with Netware in the early 90s.

This sounds ominous however:


Completion of the sale was contingent on the sale of a portfolio of 882 Novell patents to a consortium, CPTN, whose members include Microsoft, EMC and Apple.

More patent trolling inc, I suspect. Sigh.

Funny how Apple is getting more like microsoft in it's competition practices with every passing day.

Think VHS v Betamax or PC DOS v MS DOS

Novell has the better product and was first in to the fray but Microsoft managed to steal the crown purley by reverse engineering and then implying that having it's servers would mean you would have a better time with it's desktop OS's.

I work for a big multinational and we still use E-Dir to deliver most of our apps but it's not long for this world and only for the reason that some senior wants to follow the trends.

Doing a CNE 3.x and 4.x course gave me my first foot into being an IT professional.

A sad day imo.
