you think she is maybe talking about ADSL rather than broadband as to provide ADSL at 20mb its not a single connection that is being provided ?

ADSL2+ is a standard that can provide "up to 24mb" ;)

If you're a little more technical ASDL2+ can actually do 48Mb.

Up to 44 meg download
Up to 5 meg upload
Unlimited usage
1 static IP address (can upgrade to up to 16 static IPs)

£65 a month.
£85 connection fee.

Well line bonding is just adding multiple lines together, sort of cheating really. If you're going to allow that then in theory ADSL can do 1 bajillion bits per second :P.

Be* are crap anyway, no one gets 20mb with them as they traffic manage and eventually drop your speed and blame it on your line.

Even on unlimited package.

That must've changed because when I was with them for a couple of years, they never throttled me once. Truly unlimited it was :thumb:

I could only get 16mbit but that's cos I'm a fair way from the exchange - way better than the 4mbit that BT could offer me :p

I always found Be* to be excellent and would thoroughly recommend them to anyone. I only moved because virgin installed fibre down my road :D

Been with them 3 years and got 18 to start then it trickled all the way down to 10, blamed the line but i live in an apartment block and the people next door and above still get 17 on Sky.

Also terrible download speed after 5pm til about 11pm.

Been with them for about a year now. Must admit my speed is generally a little slower than it was before, around 11mbps as apposed to 13 when I first joined. Still always above 10Mbps though, 750m from exchange

750m?

You should easily be getting 16Mb/s at that distance surely?!

What's your line attenuation.

I'm a good 3000m from the exchange and easily get 5-6Mb at 42dB attenuation.

I'm on 8Mb ADSL1 too.

I could maybe get 8-9Mb on an ADSL2+ connection.

No idea what my line attenuation is, not sure how I go about finding out.

If you can find your router stats it should be in there.

Lol... I've been with them for about 4 years now, speed has only wavered slightly... I'm a relatively high bandwidth customer... We easily download 600GB in a month without even trying...

The only limiting factor on a BE connection is the length of the line. I've got a mate who lives a few hundred yards from the exchange who used to hit 22Mb. He switched to O2 (same company) because it was bit cheaper because he had a mobile with them...

No limits, no traffic shaping... Other than unforseeable circumstances (like yobos busting one of the fibre pipes, or massive fires in BT infrastructure etc), I've never had any problem with my internet that couldn't be fixed by replacing a damaged cable, old switch etc... Just don't use the router they provide, because that really is shi....................@catrain

That is actually utter lies. They do not traffic manage, you have a bad line but it isn't shaped or managed.

I was with them a few years, 23Mbit down / 1.3MBit up and some months I pulled down over 800GB without any come backs, I even rang them to check and they do not have any policy in place.

Better still, I was on a retention deal paying £12.50 a month.

People often confuse a dodgy line with traffic management.

There's always the posibility he was connected to a congested exchange...

If that was the case the best thing to do would be to get in touch with them on the forums so they could address the issue. They actually have a thread specifically for that matter....

But no, Be do not limit or cap your connection in any way ;)

Agreed, Never liked BT myself, there again never been with them :P

@Toonshorty Lol I'd rather pay virgin £35p/m for 50mbit dl and 5mb ul.

I'm pretty sure the maximum cap for ADSL+2 is 24meg and for ADSL it's 8Mb.

Read the link ;). Yeah it's channel bonding, which is just slapping 2 ADSL lines together to behave as one. You used to get the same sort of setup with ISDN lines.

I remember when the company I worked for in the early 90s got 4 bonded ISDN lines providing a massive 256K internet connection. We thought that was awesome at the time :).
