"Microsoft last week traveled to San Francisco, rounding up Windows XP users who had negative impressions of Vista. The subjects were put on video, asked about their Vista impressions, and then shown a "new" operating system, code-named Mojave. More than 90 percent gave positive feedback on what they saw. Then they were told that "Mojave" was actually Windows Vista."

 Clever, but what did it achieve...

works ok for me....

anyway i'm not surprised at the result as i've said before most people who criticise Vista have either not tried it for a sustained period or are going off gossip.

I'm Currently having to use xp on my eee laptop but would sooner be using vista as its much easier and better to use imho.

Works fine for me too.

I've been using Vista for a grand total of three days now. It was a strange adjustment at first but I've not had any problems with it so far and am really enjoying all it's little extras.

been on and off vista for over a year now and as it stands atm its the best os out.

xp was better at first but it was the 3rd party drivers that cost vista alot of performance over xp and it past it imo well before sp1 came out.

once you get used to the way its set out vista seems to make much more sense.

Too many people hate vista because they think it's cool to... without actually having any reason. It's the same as the "I don't like windows at all"/"I don't like mac" brigades.

My response is "well, what's wrong with vista"?

I don't accept the following:
+ "It's incompatible with all my stuff" - try again, you had a go of the beta and then whinged about it. They've ironed out almost all of the bugs now
+ "It's insecure" - there are still more bugs in xp than vista... in fact, ubuntu currently has more known bugs, so no hippies allowed
+ "It's a resource hog" - turn aero off, it barely uses more than XP, and how many don't have at least a C2D and 2gb RAM now? If we wanted low-resource useage we'd all be using 3.1 (which would be cool, but no..
+ It looks stupid - you can easily make it look like "classic" windows (98/nt/non-glossy XP) - XP looked like a citroen saxo with too many neons anyway.

I'm not even a vista lover, but I have it on 2 machines in my house, have installed and used it on 2 at work, installed it for several friends/neighbours etc and had ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS. Like seriously, none. I've had 1 BSOD in the last 8 months on my laptop, and you can even customise the colour, so it's practically a game.

Another point is that Vista preloads ram with data to speed up loading, while XP loads up on demand, meaning ram usage is higher but application performance will be better.

The annoying thing I find about the preloading is that when windows first starts you can't do much with it for a minute while it grabs stuff from the hard drive.

Once its done that though, it is nice to have apps load smoothly. I just wish there was a way of setting which apps got the preload treatment.

I find the more you use something the more it gets preloaded, for instance Counterstrike loads in seconds now, when after first install it used to take a good 30 seconds or more.

I have to agree with that though.

I use firefox constantly, but I'd rather my RAM got loaded with Eclipse and Apache files first.

It would also be great for allowing people to scale their system up or down to their ram useage. If I installed 8gb of ram, I could use it to store, well, virtually everything I use in one sitting. Or if I made a budget built (or just as useful for a media centre PC) stop it loading anything I don't want.

Fair enough, you can just un-install/disable programs, but a media centre PC can be a useful backup, so I'd rather have some programs installed.

Another thing that gets on my nerves is that I have a 2GB flash pen plugged in, and readyboost enabled. Can I tell what windows should stick on that extra bit of cache? NOPE!

The only annoyance i have found with vista is the control panel... sometimes it opens things in the same window and sometimes it opens in a new window, no idea why... but it does.

There may be some option to change it but ive not played with it enough yet.

But thats literally the only thing bad ive noticed, its quick, looks cool and like lynx said about the ram preloading, handy as foooooook...

I love people who go on about how great their macs are.....

Then everytime they have to ask when they buy something, Will it work with a mac....

It gives me great pleasure :D

Too true... i have these arguments at work all the time, "nothing goes wrong with a mac", then it does and you cant fix it.
"Just restart it and it works" you dont have to restart windows to make it work, it just does, you only restart for things to take affect.

"Macs are great for media developement" you have less control (keybpard and mouse) and alot of programs dont run on a mac, 99% or programs work on windows

I dont hate macs, i just think there ****e

try using a legitamte version then Jon ;)

seriously though install nvidia drivers on vista and guess what.....

IT WORKS!!!!

64bit version of vista is pointless unless ur using MORE than 4gb so if using 4gb or less then stick with 32bit anyway. used both and didnt notice enough of a difference on 64bit to warrant using it over the 32bit version.

Unless we sell dodgy versions then it is a legit copy :P so ner ner ner ner
