How is it connected?

USB, Esata, Firewire, somthing else?

The SATA power/signal connection is built in to my PC external casing just like the USB ports etc.

So it's using power over Esata or Esatap?

For more info:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA

If so does your motherboard support Esatap? (personally not seen one that does, but I know there are some out there)

I have numerous straight Esata enclosures (5 different makes/models) all of mine are either USB or mains powered

Can you post pictures of the back of the motherboard and the connectors on the enclosure/dock?

The socket!! built into the external pc casing, is the same type as the socket where the hard drive of a lap top plugs into!
This came pre connected with my new PC.

Yes, I connected the external hard drive with the pc powered down.
When I powered back up, there was no sign of it in the device manager or the disc manager.
Not even a message stating new hard ware discovered.

is it in the bios then?

Too little information.

Are you saying that the PC powers the eSata?

It doesn't here.

I have an enclosure that needs a separate power supply, just like most external USB drives.

Is the eSata on the motherboard, or an add-in card? (I have used both.)

If the motherboard, what is it?

Are you just running a connection from the MB and the case?

As someone else has said, some boards expect the eSata to be connected and power before you boot.

ive had this problem too, my ext seagate freeagent has esata/fireware/usb, couldnt get it to work so i resorted to using usb for ages, then with this new GD65 motherboard i thought id have another go. plugging the esata in would activate the hard drive (lights up) but wouldnt pick it up in windows. installed all the drivers from the mobo cd, didnt work, activated achi for the external sata option in the bios didnt work, tried plugging it in when booting, didnt work. Downloaded the latest jmicron esata driver (JmicronR1.17.62.00_eSATA) and it worked straight away hotplugging it in windows. not sure if it was only that driver that was needed or a combination of the other things tried.

What was that?

Can we have an English translation?

The docking station is pre built into the PC. also powered from the pc.
It would seem that the Bios has not been set up for this allthough all the internal cabling has been done.
I am not really into messing about with bios settings, all though I had a little dabble and got some new hardware discovered when windows booted up No drivers found!

I know it's already been asked, but just to be 100% clear:

In Windows, if you right click "Computer" on the start menu and hit "Manage", then click on "Disk Management" in the left hand pane, is your drive shown?

It could be that the sata port it is connected to is set in the bios to disabled.
