Yes, they do come in the classy metal casing before you ask! :)

The Waterblock doesn't come with these I must point out. Mushkin have just 24 left in the States so if you want one for your Water-Cooled setup, let me know and I'll sort you out! Approx cost around £50 Inc VAT.

The idea behind these is that the heatsink is solid copper all over to offer better heat dissipation. They can also be equipped with a Water-Cooled RAM block (shown above) or even a DICE/LN2 RAM block for the extreme OC'ers!

And they look HAWT!!!!!

unfortunately i've got 8gb (matched set 4x2gb) of dominator gt's because i can't accomodate 4gb sticks and the old mans machine ahs got 4gb of mushkin blackline ridgeback from your deal the other week

Looks bloody amazing but its not good for SB is it? being 1.65v an all :(

MobiusPizza
21-04-11, 17:11
Though these look great, I have doubt on the heat dissipation efficiency if you have them passively cooled (without water block)

Surface area >> metal used. The fact that they are not grilled hampers heat dissipation, no matter you made the heatseak out of silver, copper gold or platinum. But it does aid the contact between a water cooling block.

That's sounds reasonable. Perhaps it is meant for watercooled.

It's sods law isn't it. I've asked a million times if 1.65v is ok for a Sandy Bridge build, not got any responses, I order this ram for his build and Ezy answers my question without even meaning too. :(

So should I cancel the order? because now I'm worried.xx

RawZ
21-04-11, 17:17
Ahh the old 1.65v is fail for SB post again.

I run 1.65v all day long as do others. No problems whatsoever. I run some rated 1.65v @ 1.6v and its fine also.

I thought 1.65v is fine for SB?

Intel recommend 1.5v and no more than 1.58v or something like that.

They say that 1.65v should be OK though.

MobiusPizza
21-04-11, 17:31
Reportedly a lot of system builders says that going from 1.60 to 1.65 does not increase reliability or overclockerability.

I do believe most 1.65V modules can be ran at 1.60V

Josh
21-04-11, 17:31
It's fine. I use 1.65V Ram which is actually optimised for SB lol. I've had no issues. I also know of alot of people that use 1.65V. We use some in our bundles aswell so that should be enough peace of mind for you :thumb: Be fine Lisa :).

there is a lot of talk here regarding cooling, and the water block and blah blah blah......

RAM will not get hot enough really to require watercooling, except for a combination of some scenarios...

Closely packed multiple sticks [4+]
Inadequate cooling flow around them
Inadequate case air flow due to external watercooling radiator etc
OTT internal case temps created by pee-poor heat management
Overclocking the crap out of them
Massively over-volting them :D
Exhausting hot air across the RAM or drawing hot air through it to a top fan

That said, i am surprised they don't supply a small finned cooler to bolt to the top like Corsair does with the Dominators, as an increased surface area does improve cooling abilities, regardless of the material the main heatspreaders/sinks are made from.

Bottom line, if you design your build correctly, you wont have a problem

Watercooled RAM is of course good for the ePeen  - as is that oh so cool little metal briefcase this stuff comes in

EDIT:
and i if thought my blackline ridgeback RAM was heavy compared to others like Patriot or Corsair then this stuff being all copper is likely to weigh a bit too :D

That's when the voltage question may become more pertinent........ when you start loading 6 dimms on to the board

Look very nice with this .

Lisa
22-04-11, 22:08
That's when the voltage question may become more pertinent........ when you start loading 6 dimms on to the board

Ah, lightbulb time!

So if I understand what you're saying then if I have 2 dimms at 1.65v each then I'm pushing 3.3v through my ram. But if I had 4 dimms of 1.5v ram I'd be pushing 6v through my ram.

Or am I completely misunderstanding what you're trying to say

Gunslinger
23-04-11, 13:31
your misunderstanding.... the voltage wont go up, but the increased current draw may cause an issue, as each dimm will place a given load on the power feed, the more dimms the more load

Take my board for example, ASUS P5E3 Deluxe, no problem with 4GB 2x2GB - split that into 4x1GB and the controller can suffer strange errors if you try and ramp the speed up too high, so basically it's a case of making sure you dont put too high a load on things if your already running high on one of the parameters (voltage)

Google around and see what other people's setups are

Tnnt

Firstly, many thanks, sincerely, for trying to explain that to me.

But I simply can't get my head around what you're saying and I really really want to understand it. Any chance you could pretend you're talking to an absolute imbecile.....

Sorry, I just want to understand this stuff. :(

But I simply can't get my head around what you're saying and I really really want to understand it. Any chance you could pretend you're talking to an absolute imbecile.....

Sorry, I just want to understand this stuff. :(

basically, i think it means...

-2 dimms @ high (1.65V) is fine! 4 dimms @ high (1.65V) may not be fine!
-2 dimms @ low (<1.55V) is fine! 4 dimms @ low (<1.55V) still should be fine :)!

the 4 dimms at a high voltage will put extra strain on the IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) which is built into the CPU. this may cause instability or even problems, and is likely to leave less OCing headroom for the CPU and RAM

i hope im correct

f12f12
23-04-11, 15:20
think of it in watts.

1.6V * 1 amp = 1.6W

2 sticks draws 3.2W

4 sticks will draw 6.4W, which is too much for the cpu to output. this means the cpu creates more heat and draws more power both cause it to become less stable.

yes memory uses external power but the cpu has to give it all its signals, more signals to more places creating instability.

lower the voltage of the ram and it lowers to watts, letting the cpu run cooler.

Lisa

Think I'll just go with a lower voltage set, nice looking ram and all and if I was seting up a WC loop and getting the water block they would then look even more awesome.

Now just get the Blacklines 1.35v back to the offer price of £90 or no deal banker!

Shame they dont do a 6GB kit or I would have snapped a set up with a waterblock :D

Haha, fair point Sean.xx

They kinda go with the board's colourscheme, especially the 24 pin socket and the top pci-e socket.

I dunno I think they look better on the sabertooth personally. Sure the UD7 is nice but it is pricey and best suited to extreme over clocking IMHO.

Will be buying a set myself come Tuesday/Wednesday, they do look excellent.

There are sites out there basically reselling Aria stock. I.e, small computer stores with online websites, etc. Pretty sure that'd be the case here.

Do you really need to watercool ram?

Do you really need to watercool ram?

Nope, complete waste of time for standard memory like this. :thumb:

Mr. Grapes
29-06-11, 15:51
you do if you don't have any airflow...
example: you have a fully WC'd setup, CPU, GPU(s), chipset, MOSFETs, HDD's etc. your Rads are mounted externally (or in a fully separate compartment)
in this instance it would be beneficial to watercool anything that gives off heat, e.g. RAM

but by then you've spent so much money on your rig, the extra on this kit in pretty minimal
