hello, problems with my new Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard.....

after building the system and applying power to the PSU the motherboard will not boot.

before pressing the 'on' button all chassis and psu fans turn on at a very low spedd and stay on permanently. when i press the 'on' button the CPU fan turns slowly and the chassis and mouse lights pulsate!!

I tried another psu and tried the motherboard on a wooden table without a graphics card to rule out any shorts but it still does it

Im using a 2.2 core 2 duo and 4gb kingston ram (667). no error beeps are being produced.

I think the motherboard is faulty? (CPU, RAM and G card came from my old pc so i know they eork ok)

any ideas????

Which Processor are you using? have you connected both the 20/24 ping power connector and the 4/8 one?

I'm using a 2.2 core 2 duo.

I dont think its processor related as the chassis fans turn on before I hit 'on' unless some core 2 duo's are not compatible?

it may be one of the new 45nm chips. You may need a bios update to support it.

thats why i asked which chip you have (an E1x00, an E2xx0 an E4xx0 e6xx0, e7xx0, or E8xx0)

ill have to remove the cpu to double check, the cpu is around 8 months old, i dont know when the 'new' 45nm chips came out.

i thought at least id get some error beeps?

this is what my cpu reads......

Intel 05 E4500
SLA95 MALAY
2.2GHZ/2M/800/06
Q734A420

E4500.....is this one of the new chips?

i checked the cpu support list and my cpu is there.

No, the E4500 has been around for a while and wouldn't pose any of these problems.

Can you confirm that you have connected both ATX 24pin cable and ATX12V 4pin cable?

These symptoms may also indicate a power supply unit problem seeing that it seems to power certain equipment up straight away without front panel power button intervention. What brand and model? Otherwise, if the PSU was already from your other pc it sounds like a Dead on Arrival motherboard.

Also ensure that you've plugged all your front panel cables in properly. They can be very annoying at times.

The PSU was working properly with my old motherboard, I also tried another 450w PSU to make sure and it did the same thing.

I tried it again with all front panel (USB, lights, reset switch) disconnected and it did the same thing.

I thought it was a bit dodgy when first applied power to it and all chassis + psu fans stayed on constantly (CPU fan did not turn on at this point), even before i pressed the 'on' button

I used to build PC's for a living so have seen many incompatibilities with hardware giving funny results but have never seen this before from a new MOBO

I'll call up aria and see what they reccomend, I think the MOBO is faulty.

Given what you've tried already I think it's safe to say that the board is faulty. Call Aria :)

Boards on its way back, Aria will run a few tests and confirm if its faulty.........if its not then ill head butt a brick wall!

thanks for the help.
