View Full Version : What's your favourite DOS game?
I had so many, I find it hard to decide which I liked most.
> Money Island 1 & 2
> Full Throttle
> Carmageddon
> Command & Conquer
> Beneath a Steal Sky
> Quake
> Doom

the first proper pc game i played was wolfenstein on a compaq 386sx20 - with sound on the speaker! bleep bleep bloop bop bop bop bleeep bzzzzz!
I miss point and click adventure games - Beneath a Steel Sky, Indiana Jones and the Fate Of Atlantis, Monkey Island etc
There are loads on my shelf at home that i wish i could play again but dont have the time
I've never been able to get Beneath a Steel Sky to work since they introduced Windows :(
It won't work on any Windows platform, and DOS is gone now, so I can't play it on my machine at all.
I'm considering either trying to use VMware to get it running, or I might actually consider building the lowest spec old machine I can manage to play it on
im sure i got BASS to work on ScummVM....
Ishar i think it was called.
I was very young though, but it was a kewl game.
Can remember playing Monkey Island, but always had problem getting past the same bit.
Can picture it tho 8)
Day of the Tenticle was good, but for some reason beyond me I never got around to playing Sam and Max!

Day of the Tenticle was kewl, I loved it when you could start playing the original from within it :)
Doom has to be up there on my list, I remember my Mum used to like playing that, loved finding the secret doors. Wasn't too good at shooting stuff tho

Was something like , Edit -> Goto XL97 then Help -> About and sumut else

Shame as it was nice and stable,
I hated Excel 2000, It would just start doing stuff that I didn't want it to do  ( mostly formating related )
but at least 2003 is stable now ( I few things broken IMHO, but I have work arounds )
Restart Excel 97 .
Open a new blank document .
Press F5 .
A reference box will open , type in X97:L97 and press ENTER .
Press TAB .This will take you to the cell M97 .
Click on the chart wizard button while holding down Control and Shift keys .
Presto ! You are in Flight Simulator

I used Winzip until Windows ME came along, that has zip files built into it if I remember rightly.
And of course XP does as well, but I always use Winrar for everything now.
Doom.
Duke Nukem
EF2000 (I think that was dos)
Syndicate Wars (though that might have been win 95)

Btw, it was LBA2 - Twinsen's Adventure..? that I played.
yeah, thats the one I think !!
its scarry as I usually have a good memory but this has me all :?
Think I shall have to see if I can buy it somewhere, when I played it I borrowed it from a friend, kept hold of it for weeks.
I shouldn't have too much of a problem getting it to run on Linux
I seem to remember he used to make panting noises when running
and little girly ( no offence to the Ladies ) screams when hurt
and for the day the graphics were quite stunning

Yeah my friend lent it to me for a few weeks. It's funny how I remember all the old 3D games to have much smoother graphics...
I still play Quake regularly online (fvf.servequake.com is a great server) and I liked alot of the SCUMM-based games like Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle. Never really liked Doom.

Day Of The Tentacle was a fantastic game, especially if you had the full speech version! Those were the days!

Yeah brings back the memories and of course Monkey Island as already mentioned, never got the last one in the series and also Sam and Max was good. Now been resurrected as a series of episodes. :)
Yeah, I had the CD version with full speech. Fantastic game (DoTT)
As for Sam & Max, I thought they were missing, presumed Xbox?
You are all young aren't you. I used to play Hero on CPM and actually wrote it in assembler for the NASCOM home computer when I worked for them???? also designed a colour graphics card and 'disk drives' (single sided single density) on the NASCOM as well.
