Been reading a few threads from this area of the forum for a while, and always thought I should put some of my own photos up.

They are not brilliant, but reasonable is a good way to describe them.

No touching apart from a resize.

All took on a trip to Africa.

Took with a Pentax K10d.

We took literally hundreds of photos, but thought i'd share just a few for now. May stick lots more on a web site if I ever get the inclination.

I was born in Zimbabwe, Harare to be exact. I lived there from birth until the age of seven when I moved to Holland. At the age of eleven I moved to England. Happy days! :)

I was born in NY, lived there for like 5 years, the moved to Cape Town, SA for 3 years, then moved here

Its a pain having to tell the whole story to everyone i meet, takes so long :lol:

No idea, got a few shots of it. Never have found out what type of bird it is.

I forgot to ask in the original post, where did you actually go and how did you manage to get so close to the animals? I take it you were on a guided trip.

Kenya, and yes a guided trip. It was our honeymoon to be exact.

So close = 300mm lens.

Amazing time. second only to when we spent a year travelling around India / Asia.


Yep, the colours on the bird are amazing..what type of bird is it?

Just had to find out after you asked.. I think it's a "lilac breasted roller bird" or "violet breasted roller bird" seem to refer to the same bird.

I went to kenya last year absolutely loved it. Took some OK photo's using a Nikon D70 with a 300mm lens and thought they turned out great. But yours are stunning!!

Really great job :)
