Hello all,

Just thought id start a thread about different security software, and cleaning/maintenance software.

Tell us what security and maintenance software you use and why you use it and what you think about it.

I thought a thread like this could be quite beneficial to many people, noobs or not.

So who's first?

I could tell you but then i WOULD have to kill you, noi ;).

However in the interests of newbies i would recommend, spyware doctor, avg (cos its free), a squared and Ad-Aware (both free too).

AVG is a pile of p00 p00 compared to every other anti virus, avg has to be the worst as theres always aload of false detections and there just rubish

Is this thread so that if your plan to break in to all of our houses to steal our valuables while we're out fails, you know who's PC is easiest to get into to steal useful data from?! ;)

At the moment, I use a firewall built into the router, windows defender, spyware doctor and AVG, but i've just got McAffee Enterprise from my work which will be replacing AVG soon.

I have to say tho Micky, I agree AVG isnt the absolute best anti virus, but it has always been on my computer and always done well to protect them - and for free (and legal), you cant really ask for a completely perfect program. I think its really good actually, especially for the price ;)

Just NOD32.
Occasinally use Tune Up Utilities 2008, can't tell if it makes a difference tho:S.

Nat Router, Windows Firewall, Windows Defender.

Also the occasional runnage of spybot S&D. And I run firefox with the noScript plugin.

The best antivirus kit is common sense in my opinion.

Got it in one :P

Nah i just thought it would be quite an informative thread, people need to explain why they use the software and what its benefits are.

Why they think its better than others, and also, any windows tweaks, tiny apps or anything you use...

There is no such thing as a perfect anti virus Micky so slating one piece of software is pointless as it is only ever as good as its last update. As for false positives ALL virus checkers do that at one time or another, AV software is a last resort if you are reasonably careful you shouldn't need it. Also there is no such thing as a one stop shop security method hence i use multiple pieces of software, and indeed computers, my gaming rig only ever connects to the net for gaming and to visit a handful of forums.

Along with my routers hardware firewall and windows security stuff, for what its worth. Every little helps to coin a phrase.

House keeping software i tend to use Auslogics Disk defrag, a very good free piece of software for keeping disks tidy.
