Very quick, stupid question.

I just ordered my gubbins for my PC including the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, I understand this comes with Thermal Compound already applied, so when I get the Processor, Mobo and Fan I can just stick em all together with no fussing right?

Apologies again for the noobish question.

Thermal goop on those things aint that bad I guess. You'll get a few degrees lower temps if you use something like artic silver.

the Mx-2 that is pre installed has been tested to be as good as if not a little better that AS5, Although imho arctic cooling seem to put way too much on.

I'm a dumbass, so all this thermal paste goes over my head. I certainly don't remember it from my last PC build (8 years ago).

My freezer came with a lot of compound on it. At least twice what I would normally apply.

Thats not to knock the performance of Mx-2 though.

exactly.

the only advantage is that you can take it off clean up the processor and remound a couple of times with out needing to put more TIM on the cooler :D

its easy m8, put the cpu in the board and slap the freezer pro on top, job done.

just make sure no dust or hair gets inbetween :)

I think there might be a little plastic cover or film over the thermal compound. Best to remove that first ;)

I wasn't even going to take it out of the Cityline packaging.

or the van - just park it up on top of the motherboard and you're good to go... (i feel we may be taking this a little too far.. ;) )

Took about 35 minutes to fit the heatsink in the end. If you're going to buy an Asus P5Q-E then don't get the Freezer 7 Pro, the copper heatsinks on the motherboard that surround the LGA socket make it nigh on impossible to fit.

did you need to bend the bottom fin or did you rotate it so the fan blows up?

Nothing wrong with bending the bottom fin a bit to make it fit. I had to tweak mine a little.

Yeah, a bit of bottom fin bending sorted the problem out as reasonably as could be expected.
