posted in this secion as i thought id get more linux users than in the hardware section.

dont know if youve come across this problem before but im pretty much of a noobie when it comes to linux if it dont work out the box i use a different distro.
i have Backtrack installed and use live cds aswell, the computer will boot and work fine then suddenly (in backtrack) the keyboard will stop responding (wireless keyboard) the reciver will light up as normal but no on-screen.

then on live cds i will be using the mouse then all of a sudden the left +right click wont work, although i can still move the curser

the linux distrobutions worked fine before my upgrade at christmas,

current spec
PS2 kboard
USB mouse
Core I5 760
Asus P7P55d-e
8gig DDR3

also i have 2x500gigHDD +250gig hdd (all sata2) some linuxes only see the 250gig drive and no partitions of both 500 gigs, how do i access these partitions,

thanks Ratty

Really depends on what Linux you are using. I'm guessing some of the more user friendly distro's (Ubuntu etc) should allow you to see those partitions out of the box. But for some other distro's (my experience with Arch) you have to modify some files (fstab) to get the OS to identify secondary hard drives.

Can't really help you with backtrack though, as I've never used it.

ive tried the new ubuntu (just before posting he original post) and it just showed me my 3rd drive (the 250gig) am going to try change the sata ports round see if its somthing to do with that,
also might play around woth the bios see if i can figure out the kboard+mouse problem (as it happens with most live linux's)

thanks for your reply mate

I'd be suprised if changing sata ports around made any difference.

Before doing that, open a terminal and enter this:

sudo fdisk -l

Post the output here. That should provide enough information about the drives and partition structure to work out why you can't see them.

Tbh if you're a Linux noob you shouldn't be running BackTrack as it's
an advanced pentest distro, they tend to make a lot of modifications
to the kernel and modules so that all the tools play nicely and this is
possibly the problem you have with the keyboard etc.. As for the hdd
and partitions problem, BackTrack doesn't automatically mount all the
hdds and partitions for the purpose of digital forensics and same goes
for automatic network configuration (not sure if they moved that into
ninja mode though). Also it's based on Ubuntu's LTS release so really
if something works in Ubuntu and not in BackTrack it's because most
of the time they've made it that way.. Hope this sheds some light =)

Could you be more specific, ie manufacture and model of the keyboard and mouse.

Dose sound more like a motherboard-linux issue, for instance something with power management.

Are your wireless devices properly supported in Linux? It most likely that there are no (or poor) driver support for such a device unless provided by the manufacturer. Better still, your post implied that you might be using Windows, does it work fine there?

thanks Lorem il check the power management think it couold be somthing to do with the motherboard because ive used quite a few live cds and have the same problem which i didnt have before i upgraded, im going to re-install and see if that changes anything
