Quite a good but brief article on RAID setups

I like the description of RAID 5, useful.

Anyone got any info on whether that can be done with standard MOBOs? I'm looking at a mid range motherboard with 2/3 HDDs - if I can put them in raid 5 I might be tempted by 3x 500gb drives (which I think would give 1tb total storage?)

Most modern boards allow Raid 5, but the performance is not so good.

If you really want to run Raid, buy an Hardware Raid Card. The Performance difference is huge.

you think the difference is that big? i had read that they only came into their own if you had more than like 4 drives setup?

i have my 2 striped again, loads games like lightning :)

I was taking about Raid 5 and above really, where the CPU has to do the parity calculations.
