It makes me sick how far this government will go to control every aspect of our lives. Gordon brown "eat this" "drive like this" and now he wants to record EVERY phone record and internet record.

Maybe it wont happen soon, but the fact that our government is thinking about it is a worrying sign.
It shows that if they had it their way we would have everything we ever did logged and recorded.
Once a system like this is in place, it only takes one dodgy person in power to use it for very devious ends.

torrents cant be monitored as they come from some many different sources. Virgin monitor large downloads not torrents...

torrents cant be monitored as they come from some many different sources. Virgin monitor large downloads not torrents...
i thought isp's could check the popular ports that torrent software used and therefore slow them down ?
mine are never slowed down.. so if they do then i've not noticed.
full albums usually take 5mins to download. :|

Theres a page somewhere on the virgin website that talks about packet-shaping.
Heavy users get their bandwith capped during peak times, I don't know if they are changing the priorities of different ports.
mine are never slowed down.. so if they do then i've not noticed.

Yeah they do, 800mb i think, takes 5 hours to reset or after 10pm or something

Yeah I think its between 4 and 12, they throttle a 20Mb connection down to 10Mb or something.
Just proves they are selling bandwith they don't actually have.
Again i'm on a 20mb connection and havent noticed any throttling of my speed.
as far as i'm aware this is not all areas as yet.
Its in areas where they are oversubscribed.
I'm actually only about a mile or so from there offices so theres plenty of bandwidth ;)
plus as ex staff i know who to speak too :mrgreen:
