Just thought id have to start a poll on what OS people prefferred, or thinks runs better, more secure, or anything.

Add any comments you like on each OS.
Windows, nothing else does what i want / need straight out of the box.
More opinions people... i need to see more than 7 votes too :P
What Aaron said
To be more prescise Vista is the one for me.
I'm not Geeky enough for linux.
I like linux and can do it all well, but i just find windows works so why mess about with linux.
I mostly play games on my PC, can't beat windows for that.

Games = Windows!
XP SP3 FTW. Vista has too many problems
XP SP3 FTW. Vista has too many problems
Yeah mainly rumors being the big problem vista has, too many people spreading them.
I've had Vista since release and not had any issues that i'd not had when using XP. Anything new was usually hardware related or pebcat related.
I agree with you in a way tystar, XP was thought to be rubbish when it first came out, incompatible people said, look at it now.
If anything doesnt work in either XP or vista, theres usually some update that sorts it out
I know, thats what people seem to forget about that with xp and considering it's on sp3 now it cant be that perfect still :)

Ah, yes.
Windows for me.
Mac is for pretentions pain-in-the-backside "I'm better than you" artsy types. The ones who, 20 years ago, would go round with a beret and a fake french accent saying "aaah, ze colouurz do so aczentuate ze piece!".
Idealogically, I'd like to use linux. I have an ubuntu laptop lying around and it's great on that old hardware, but it's too fiddly to use every day, even with the great progress they've made. Fact is, though, I've never once had to go into the config on windows to get something basic like Wifi working. Tuning, yes... but not basics. I like the look of reactOS an an open source project, and that and ubuntu will probably get a cheap HDD between them on my next PC, just to play with.
I like windows compatability, and it's only improved for me in XP and Vista. I find it to be mostly stable and it just works. It's a bit of a hardware hog, but even on my puny laptop it runs fine. Yes, I remember the BSOD on 98 and *shudder* ME, but those are 8-10 years ago now. I can't even remember my last XP BSOD, and I think I've had one in 6 months on Vista (when I was ****ing about with drivers).

I use windows mainly because its just solid, and no fiddling about to get things working.
Linux (Ubuntu + Debian + Mint) is nice and I have it installed on all 3 of my machines but only use it now around 20% of the time.
So what do you people use linux for, if and when you do?
What is it good for?
WAR! HUH!
Sorry... had to do it
Linux is more of a moral/techie/cost thing.
I doubt many people use it because it's better, but because they can fiddle with it more (techie); because they're a hippie and hate corporations, man, and open source is, like, hip (moral); or because it's free (cost)
I only use linux if i get bored and want a pc challenge, and also because being linux literate means that I can help other linux users if theres a problem.
So theres nothing specific anyone here would use linux for instead of windows?

vmware linux for foldiing smp, its quicker
I'd use linux if I ever wanted a server box, and probably for a media PC aswell. Mostly since I wouldn't interact with either directly so much, so I could ignore the interface. It's be more useful because if I built either they'd be fairly low powered machines (with big HDDs) the idea being to keep initial costs (on both components and OS) and power consumption (lower power components running at lower loadings) down.
Mac coz it’s reliable! I haven’t had to reinstall OS X since i got it in November. I got vista in Jan and have had it reinstall it 5 times! Also Apple don’t seem to have huge gaping flaws in there OS when released unlike Windoze!
