View Full Version : AMD Phenom X4 9750 at 55c
I have an AMD Phenom X4 9750 running at 55c at idle, which does not sound like a good idea, The bios does not seem to give any alarm, but the ASUS Probe II certainly displays a warning about over temp.
I am also having a lot of trouble loading Cool and Quiet ......
Some advice suggests 55c is OK and that Cool and Quiet should be removed and only use Q fan control.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks
John
Sounds normal, i recently built a media system around that chip and mine was idling at nearly 60c according to Abits own software, i checked with everest and that showed the individual cores to be around 15c lower.
I would recommend getting a better cooler though as at max load my power regulation ic's hit 100c so i stopped the test (priming) as the stock cooler was offering little or no airflow over them. My case fans were low flow quiet ones though so if you have a decent amount of airflow through the case you may find this isn't a problem.
I'd say it's a tad high. If I recall correctly, AMD's documentation has stated a thermal guideline of around 65c for the Core temperatures of the Phenom. What are you using to read the temperatures?
The cooler is the stock cooler included in the retail box.
Because of the trouble I am having with Cool and Quiet I decided to uninstall all the ASUS utilities and reloaded them , this time Cool and Quiet did load OK I enabled it via the Bios and reloaded the driver for Cool and Quiet and it runs but I still cannot get the CPU to drop below 2400mhz at idle.
I am using AI Suite and Probe II to measure the temps and now it seems to have stabilized at around 53c...not sure why........
Is there a utility I can use to load up the CPU to monitor the temps at load?
Thanks
John
http://www.download3k.com/Install-Prime95.html
Prime95 will do it but PLEASE keep an eye on the other temps, mobo and pwmic's
Thanks for the link to Prime 95 I will have to learn to use this utility but what I have tried doesn't appear to increase the CPU temps that much possibly it;s my inexperience with the set up.
One other point is that I noted that the BIOS was not at the latest level so I have updated that and now the CPU temps are steady at around 51c
Thanks Agin
John
What exactly do they reach whilst loading the cpu as they should increase quite a bit once you start the test (running the prog doesn't load the cpu, you have to physically start the test, open task manager to be sure).
Ok I had 4 threads running and the temp increased from approx 53C to 60c in about 5mins, so I closed the program down at that stage. I did not notice much increase in the mobo.
Thanks
John
