Nice one. The minimum rate for writing these days should be £250 per 1000 words.

It has been stuck there for years. Should be at least £500/1000. But anything less than £250/1000 is taking the ****.

Right but this is your first published review? They know the fact you have a review published is worth more than the fee. Looks good on the CV for you etc.

They are giving you a break after all and I bet that's how they rationalise.

Yeah, know what you mean mate - that really :censored: me off too. I once wrote into Auto Express and my short letter was changed from a reasonable question into something that made me seem stupid and as though I didn't know what I was talking about, as well as meaning they could answer easily. I stopped my sub too. Maybe it's a Dennis policy? :picard:

EDIT - don't let our experiences take away from you though nescafe37, it's still some achievement to be published ;)

Sorry. But that is how many magazines work. They rely on people who will work for the glory and peanuts, or who can dash off words that need no effort.

The rates I quoted are already too low for a freelance writer to earn a living.

But in these days of bloggers prattling on for nothing, getting paid anything is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
