View Full Version : Yaris CV Boot
My girlfriend just called me saying that her car has just failed the MOT because of a split CV Boot.
She has been quoted £115 to do the job (£170 including the MOT Test fee). Does that sound right to you guys? It sounds a bit on the high side to me, but then I've never owned a Yaris and I don't know what parts cost! Obviously, I'd be a little concerned about the driveshaft too, as I don't know how long its been like it.
Also, I've been reading around, and some people are saying that the boots come attached to the driveshaft and thats just how you buy them which would explain the high cost.. Does anyone know if thats right?

depends
if its just split the gaiter then it just needs a new cv kit about £15
yeah you need to dismantle a lot of stuff to put a new one on, but its simply a cheap part usually

if it does need the whole lot replacing then that price is about right
Try a tyre shop like Kwikfit, National Tyres, or even Halfords around here. They usually charge a lot lower prices as they need things to keep staff busy. Most also do MOTs

kwikfit cheap lol yeh ok
I know its a cheap part - the 115 includes labour as well. Just wondering how much of a job it actually is. Looking at it, it looks like you have to remove a good chunk of the bits underneath..
i heard Tystar can do it for free with a ziptie ;)
I heard he used zipties for other things..
I heard he used zipties for other things..
jo joyner?
That would explain Jon's 'work from home' business....
that's not too bad a price all things considered. Lot of work to replace them, lost count how many I changed on the Discovery ..
Be wary, you take the car offsite to another garage to repair and then you say hello to a £25 retest fee at some places.
DT.
As DT said, Its alot of work to do.
How many miles has it done?
Might be worth you taking it to another garage. They take advantage of women...
Unfortunately, she's in Bath and I'm not up there till Friday when we're going to a Funeral. However, this was at a garage that she had been recommended by a few people as being pretty good and fair.
Alternatively, I could just drive it over to you on Saturday if you fancied a go at it
i heard MatVW uses duct tape
yeah sounds about right to me..To be honest i used to do these sorts of jobs and CV boots is one of my least favourite...Such a bloody messy job and yeah theres a little bit of work involved in getting to it..Another plus side of getting the garage to do it is you dont have to do it.:thumb:
