As some of you are aware, my dad recently passed away. Something he had really wanted was to build his computer, and he had bought various parts. There was going to be a big switch of parts and all sorts, which I won't explain, but, long story short, I decided that instead of selling the parts which would not feel right, I wanted to make it my own.

So my old system, Q6600, is now going to be for sale, and now I am running the following;

Phenom II 965 (currently at stock)
GTX 460 SC
6GB DDR3
Crucial C300 ( as a treat to myself)

My board also supports upcoming bulldozer chips, so may be looking to improve this system further perhaps around christmas time.

Enough talking, let's see some pics;

The old system:

Some of you will probably say "ugh.. not much of an upgrade", but this isn't about upgrading, it just feels right.

And quite honestly, as long as intel keep their push pins, I'll be sticking with AMD :P

Comments appreciated.

Nice pics! Why triple channel RAM?

UPDATE YOU SIG

Looks good, Personally after having a 955 i just hate AMD compared to intel

Have updated, triple channel because I won't use 8gb, and 6 seemed the next best number. More can be added....

I haven't played any games yet but will report back when compared. Comparably, the 965 is about 20% better than my Q6600, but mine was overclocked. We shall see.

Cheers

Cheers, actually am pleased so far. Sure it's the SSD but everything is so quick, it's very pleasing. Was initially annoyed as, the idiot I am, I formatted my steam drive!!!!! But luckily I had it on another drive, as the one I wiped was a backup. I would not enjoy downloading 70GB all again!

Installing BC2 now, it's the benchmark for me. So long as it plays that, I am happy.

For reference, it idles at 30c (CPU), sound fine to me considering the high clock, and after having a look around it seems low compared to others, so would that be alright?

I ain't that clued up on AMD temps mate but 30c sounds fine to me.

30 deg is about right for an AMD CPU idle mate. Real nice looking build as well, not sure on your choice of triple channel ram in a dual channel board but great build none the less! :)

Well I thought I already had 4 gb, but I realised soon after that the other kit was 1066, and in 2 x 1gb format, which is for my sister. Stupid mistake, but I will order the extra stick when I put in another order. Otherwise I am paying for delivery.

Cheers

Nice pics!
I second that. Congratulations to Faz on a rare example of photos that are in focus and without nasty flash highlights.

Faz should post a tutorial on how to produce viewable pictures of a build.

Some of the stuff we see here gives me a headache.

For heaven's sake, there is even depth of field in there. Neat.

:o

gee.. what can I say :D

Nice camera, Canon Ixus something or other, my mums, takes very very nice photos and is just a tiny compact. Always turn the damn flash off, it was 12 when I took these photos, it's not dark!!!!!

There were a few I deleted, but the majority are the first ones I took. Almost definitley the camera though :P

Just put an SSD in my system a couple of days ago so much quicker espically booting up. Had to re-download all my steam games all 66GB, did it in less than a day SSD fitted windows reinstalled steam games back on Microsoft office, Was glad I had my own unlimited internet connection for that would you imagin a 10GB limit a month 1 game and its gone:cry (just mention it as I thought of it while doing my setup)

I gave Bad Company 2 a go and it's basically the same as my old build, so I am quite happy. I didn't want an improvement, just needed to make the switch. Temps are at 40 when in game, too, which is good. It's a shower rather than a grower :P

Nice camera, Canon Ixus something or other,

Excellent cameras. Not cheap. I owned one.

But you still have to get them to focus properly, and to avoid flash reflections.

Some of the pictures that turn up here seem to have been taken through the bottom of a shaking beer bottle.

Makes it hard to appreciate the handiwork that went into the build.

I agree, I think some people just lack some basic common sense when it comes to quality imagery - what to put in the foreground, background, what to focus on, best angle to take shot from.

Ah well, maybe people will learn :D

Cheers

looking good mate :thumb:

much more future proof than 775 even if the performance is only equal atm :)!

I have ordered one of those NZXT LED strips coming tomorrow, so should have that fitted in. It's white, obviously, to show off that gorgeous blue board!!

Going to look sweet as, will put up some pics of it in the dark!

Cheers Lucas, I agree! as I said earlier, AMD >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Intel push pins any day.

God I hated them!

cheers, did wonder if they should face inwards, so you arent blinded by them, may have a play around. It gives a real nice snake skin effect on my ceiling. Shame I don't have a window on my 300... would love to give it a go with the dremel but I am almost certain I would muck it up!!!
