View Full Version : New Case & System re-build :D
Just done a re-build this afternoon as the cable management became too much to deal with in my Define R2 so I bought a Define XL, this really is a lovely case, cable management is soooo much easier as there is a good inch of spare space behind the mobo tray, and Fractal even provides little cut outs to slide cable ties in to so cables can be pulled tight against the tray.
Spec:
Mobo .... MSI P45D3 Platinum
CPU ...... Q9550 @ 3.6 GHz
RAM ...... Mushkin Silverline DDR3 10666 (9-9-9-24)
HS&F ..... Thermalright Venomous X + 2 x Nocta NF-P12's
Case ..... Fractal Design Define XL
PSU ...... Coolermaster 700 W Silent Pro
GPU ...... Sapphire Radeon 5770 Vaopr-X 1GB
HDD1 .... Seagate 250 GB (not staying, just for Windows 7 test build & Overclocking)
HDD2 .... Samsung 500 GB F3 OSX 10.6.7 Vanilla
DVD ...... Pioneer DVD+/- RW (forgot the model number)
Still experimenting with CPU overclocking at the moment, hoping to get up to 4 GHz

Those braided extensions look really nice, was the 24 pin long enough but you went for one to keep it neater?

The 24 pin was long enough in the R2 (when I originally bought it), but the 8 pin was really tight so I decided to get an extension for it, when I got it I really liked the look so decided to get extensions for the 24 and the vga, I really like the braided look, but really could not be arsed to do it myself :D
Looks great mate a top job.:)
They do look really good, I just can't justify it to myself while I don't have a side window and both of them fit anyway.
The build is looking really neat, nice case. :D
Looks good mate.
But how come one of the front fans is sucking air out of the case and the other pulling in?
The bottom one?
Looks real nice there, FD make awesome cases.
I did notice the two Mac's in one of the images (I believe).

Actually oddly enough they are both pulling air in, one was pre-fitted by Fractal and I think they reversed it so cosmetically it looked good from the front, but still pulled the air in, I know it sounds odd, but they are definitely both pulling air in :)

Heh yeah, both 12 core Mac Pros (2x6 core Xeon in each with 24 GB Ram) :D In case you wondered this is my bench at work, and those machines belong to work, although one of them is for my exclusive use at the moment :thumb:
Thanks for the comments guys, it's been ages since I did a tidy build :)

Are you sure they are both pushing air into the case? The bottom one looks like a 120mm fractal fan in which case I'm sure it would be pushing air out (whatever fan it is the fins look like they are pushing air out).
wow that's a great case :)
Thanks for posting this Radial! I was thinking about upping my R2 to a XL mainly due to the limit of the cable management and the space behind the mobo tray not allowing ribbon shaped PSU cables. Looking great however.
Just have to decide between 650D or the XL now :-/

Hey Flash,
I'll stick a comparison photo up if you want to see the R2 next to the XL so you get an idea of size difference?

You've got me doubting now lol, I use a thin piece of paper next to the fans and they both appeared to suck the paper toward them, but I'll try something else to check :)
Nice, i might get that case as well, i really like the desing, there are few bits that i dont like but over all for the price its awesoem case, i think.
looks very good :thumb:
FD cases look very high class and professional :)!
good job :thumb:

That would be ideal mate!
Can use my R2 as a server then.
