hopefully Brains has shown you the tricks of the trade :P

Indeed he has... I'm picking it all up as I go along. heatsink etc is installed now, going to put it into the case, get the SSD and windows installed etc. Shame I'm going to have to do it all again when my new PSU/GPU comes.

Bigian88
01-04-11, 11:45
replacing a GPU is easy, redoing cablemanagement with a new PSU isnt difficult once you find the best routes but it is time consuming

Otherwise, very nice build mate!

I could do.... and I'm going to replace front fan with 140mm red one

Also getting a 140mm on the hard drive cage to blow silent and cold direct air in between both cards in the hope the hot air will go out of the side panel vents

Thought I'd put them two up to show how it's changed :)

Prime blend @ 4.5 Max temp of 55 on the hottest core with fans at lowest :)

Board gets hot though, needs more airflow

what was the temp before?

IIRC about 67-68 :) I'm confident temps would be lower if it wasn't for my 5850's they put so much heat into the case I might be looking at swapping them out and getting two of these:

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/NVIDIA/NVIDIA+GTX+460+Series/EVGA+GeForce+GTX+460+SE+%22Superclocked%22+1024MB+ GDDR5+PCI-Express+Graphics+Card+%5B01G-P3-1367-ET%5D+?productId=44789

You see my RAD fans are set as exhaust so they pull the air from the rad and out the roof but as it goes heat rises so it's also taking in the heat of my GPU's etc. I'm wondering if I should change my back exhaust fan to an intake?

P.S heating was on and room was like a sauna so I'm going to re-do it later and see if it makes a difference :)

Looks sweet mate as always, great to see a huge temperature drop but its something I don't think I would ever fiddle with. :)

Using rad as intake works better for anything that's being cooled by the rad i.e. your CPU but means under load you will be blowing warm air into your case so stuff that's not watercooled gets a bit warmer, like your mobo etc.

Test it out though, you might find it reduces CPU temps more than it raises mobo and gpu temps. Depends on the case really.

Or buy a case where rads are separate from components like a tj07 ;)

Why's your fan LED not on?

It doesn't look as shiny or pretty now.

Just to note mate, those 460se cards have 288 cuda cores compared to the full 336 for standard 460s.

Also the title on that page states 388 not 288 as shown in the chart below.

I can't believe I just read all that in one go, especially as it is mainly people saying fail haha.

It looks cool now though, I prefer it without the red lights, I am going for the same case and am glad it has a button to turn the front LED off :)

Pity mine will have a spec that is much worse than yours though :(

That looks much better mate, the temps are much better too. :thumb:

You going to WC the graphics cards? :P

If I'm going to do that I'll get a DDC pump but probably not. Watercooling is extremely fun though especially when you get leaks :D

Hes only using the fans on the lowest spinning rpm thoigh so temps will be a lot hihjer. If he ran them at 1100 - 1200 like on a pwn fan based cooler as it loads then he would see a good 5 - 6c drop in temps.

Also he has the fans in pull so it nowhere near as good as push.

All adds up.

There's been research that found that low rpm fans perform better in pull.

I'm still dubious though lol.

Yup +1 to this.

Josh you and I both know how awesome those 5850s are :D

Might swap the fans around to push and stick another fan in the case somewhere
