April Fools
Hi Guys,
Just a quick heads up for anyone with a C300 SSD purchased from us or elsewhere within the past 6 months, there appears to be a problem with the latest NAND applied during build phase on a small percentage of C300 SSDs. Kingston reported an issue this week with their F/W & a new F/W fix, but the Crucial C300 issue is completely different as it has an "interconnect data-to-data loss" when copying files across from one drive or SSD to another. Nothing to do with F/W.
There isn't much other information at the moment other than the email this morning.
What does it mean for you?
It appears at this time there is no F/W fix as it's to do with the quality of the NAND. Therefore we have been advised to start an RMA procedure.
If you have bought a C300 64GB or 128GB SSD from us since September 1st 2010, we will need to issue you a credit note or refund once we receive the (possible) faulty C300 SSD. Of course, we will return any postage costs up to £9.99+VAT.
I must state that his doesn't affect the 256GB C300 as the NAND used is from a different fabrication.
How can I tell if mine is faulty?
There isn't a quick way or any software to detect the fault. There is an S/N number on the NAND inside the SSDs which Crucial can identify which fabrication the NAND is sourced from. However PLEASE DO NOT open your C300 up as this will void your warranty and thus we can't offer an RMA to you.
What will happen?
This possible fault only seems to affect 1-in-8 C300 64GB & 128GB SSDs manufactured since August 1st 2010.
If the C300 appears to stall while copying large files to or from the SSD to/from another SSD/HDD, then the drive could corrupt the data.
Please stand by for further information as I’ll update this thread with more information this morning.
Thank you.
RawZ.
