Ok thanks to everyone here with all the help they have given me, i have managed to source myself a nice Coolermaster 330 Case With CM eXtreme Power 460W PSU

So inside i will have the following

CPU - http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/Intel+Core+2+Quad+Q6600+2.4GHz+95W+G0+Stepping+(Re tail+775)+?productId=28356
Motherboard - http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/Socket+775+%28Intel%29/Gigabyte+GA-EP35C-DS3R+P35+Socket+775+Motherboard?productId=31059
Ram - http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Memory/DDR2/DDR2+1066+(PC8500)/2Gb+Kingston+HyperX+PC8500+CL5+Kit+(2+x+1Gb)+?prod uctId=32126
Harddrive - http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Hard+Drives/Serial+ATA/750GB+Samsung+SATA2+-+7200+-+32MB+?productId=30231
I assume the motherboard will come with all the cables needed to connect to sata which still dont quite get as ive always used the standard IDE interface
Budget Graphics card - http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/PCI-E/nVIDIA+GeForce+7+Series/XFX+GeForce+7100GS+256MB+PCI-E+?productId=31993

All that in my eyes seems to make a fairly nice system in a budget i can manage, would like to order today so if you could advice me on anything that needs to be changed let me know

I beleive that with a q6600 you will not benifit from the 1066 ram, you will be lucky to get it much past 450fsb. which is 900Mhz on the ram, even the cheap Patriot ram does 1000mhz.

Though i choose one with a low CL rating running at 1066mhz if this is wrong please post up an alternative that is more suitable, does everything else seem up to scratch?

Mine does 450Mhz (ddr900 @ c4) or 500mhz (ddr1000) @ c5 ymmv

you can use a divider on the ram so that wont be an issue, tbh that looks a nice build.

you might want to get a gpu that can decode hdtv or f@h to free up your cpu but i cant see any major issue with your parts.

sata is easy, just mind the clips on the plug when you pull them out. the mobo comes with a few cables but that should be ok for what you have listed, do you have a disk drive (cd/dvd) lined up?

cheap F@H card hd3650 still its 3 times the price (from Aria) of the card you picked,

About the same games speed as a 6800gt

Ok so everything seems good bar the ram and you posted up ones which is cheaper thats great, dont play games and for the moment just need the most basic card for using the PC and watching Youtube lol. i can upgrade when needed with that

I already have a dvd burner so thats not really an issue, i also have an IDE drive i wanted to connect but can you have one drive in sata and one as IDE

you can have multiple sata drives and upto 2 eide devices, as the Eide controller is external from the chipset.

but you can always add a pci/pci-e card if you require more

it can cause confilcts if you want to install your os on the sata as it will give the ide priority but you can change that in the bios/install or just leave 1 unplugged while you install.

Marsey I agree, I only ever install with 1 drive connected, you can also, in most cases, disable the extra controller while you install if you are installing on the faster Sata drive

yea thats great, tbh i am only bringing over the Ide drive as its my current harddrive with all my files on, if using it as an additional drive will be a problem ill just transfer the files and dump it

thats what i was thinking with regards to the graphics card but need the most basic to get me started.

So all in all the system seems upto scratch, ill purchase it and wait for it all to arrive

ok quick question everything arrived today and the CPU with heatsink it seems to already have thermal paste on it so do i need to add more or is everything setup so no more is needed

Yes it is fine, make sure you have the push pins done correctly, they need a fair amount of pressure.

yea was going to assemble the mobo/cpu/heatsink then place it in the case as it advices to flip the mobo over to ensure all 4 are pushed in correctly
