WD data transfer is 600 MBps, sammy 300MBps

WD buffer size is 64MB sammy 32MB

WD 5 year warranty and the sammy has 3. It has to be worth the extra money for the warranty alone.

No Controller boards form Japan most likely.

About 3 months in warehouses for all components they reckon on the news this morning before production problems effect price.

My predictions are that the tragic events from Japan recently coupled with the rise in prices of raw materials will shift the market into a supply and demand situation. So in the next 6 months I expect to see computer parts rocket again which is why I don't feel so bad about splashing out on one now

Yeah but its a given retailers will up their prices now and use supply as the reason straight away. Boooo

yep basically the tsunami wiped out 90% of factories for HDD production in japan.
We will not increase the prices until we absolutely have to we will just decrease our profit margin to make sure you are still getting the best deals availiable.

To give you an idea 2.5" HDD went up about £2 this week and Samsung increased their prices on HDD no less than 6 times this week. SSD pricing will also likely be increasing.

Also certain manufacturers such as Western Digital (who normally ship around 4 million units a quarter) are reporting only 900,000 drives available for next quarter so there will be a shortage that could last until Q3 :(

Having said this, there will still be deals availiable but the short summary; the time to buy is now! :D

I thought the F4 is a slower / quieter drive compared to the F3, so I guess it depends if quieter is better than faster.
