so asking for some advice here in two area's.

1. the spec.
going from basic celeron single core 1GB ram possibly. what would be a good move?

looking to work with:
win7
office 2010/2007:
excel, word, powerpoint. and a load of internet browsing.

2. looking in to volume licences of office and win7. if the laptops come with windows 7 then its all good right?

well not got one really. just need it to cheap enough to do the job.

as long as its not £450+ then its an improvement over what was offered.

Of Aria's stock this would do you I'd imagine http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Laptops/Laptop/MSI+CR630-004UK+15.6%22+Laptop+?productId=44120

Other than that, check out Dell - that was the advice given to me that I passed on to a friend and he was ecstatic with the unit he eventually got.

Or get something cheap 2nd user from the last few years with a dual core chip and upgrade it with maximum RAM and an SSD :)

For me it has to be a decent netbook - like a samsung n130/40/50 or Asus 1015P/PE/PEM if you can afford plus a PC. Its the only way to do it well and cheaply.
