For the price of a HD 3870, you can now get a card that bests a 9800 GTX

Good going AMD :D

I want numbers

Says better than an 8800GT, how much by?

Lynx

Well, the numbers are very close, its level with an overclocked 8800 GT or a 9800 GTX

PeterStoba

Cheaper to get an 8800GT(S) then unless you want bragging rights.

could be interesting if they go into a price war but nvidia dont need to if they dont want.

It performs like a 9800GTX for a fair bit less, and this is the slowest of the series.

Hi Does any one know how long the Radeon 4850 card is ? I'm contemplating one for my media centre because of the HDMI audio and becaused frankly the 7800GTX currently in there is to slow.

I've got an NZXT Duet case, and the current 7800GTX 256MB just fits with about 2mm to spare..

Thanks

Do you use it for games or just media?

unreel2002

Mainly media at the moment as a 7800GTX is kinda slow for any new games,
I'm playing Grid on my main PC at the moment and Grid on my Media PC on a 50" TV would be great...

But I just cant seem to find the size of the card anywhere, if its any longer than a 7800GTX, then i'm outta luck.

ok, this is only a guestimate,

I downloaded a pic of the hd4850, then zoomed it until the x16 pcie connector was about 8.5 cm long, this gives the whole card a 23.5cm length, so about the same as an 8800gt

If you don't use games you may wish to look at something like an hd3650pro

HD 3850 is good enough for some minimal gaming, can be found in either single or dual slot configurations, it is long though, mine is pretty long.

i think the 88 gt/s is the same sized pcb as the 7900's but idk if they are the same as the 7800.

Maybe it will fit, I'm gonna have to find the actual sizes somewhere..

That speed test is cool Wonderlust , I cant fault my speeds with Be

Dublin gives me a much worse ping

lol, i chose it as its less than 10 miles away :D

As for the card length, the nearest thing I can find is that by downloading the user manual from Gigabytes web site the card is about the same length as the motherboard is wide!
