Looks like it 4850 is about 40-45% faster than a 9800gtx

hmmmmmm they could be fake ?
40-45% increase in performance over nvidias current "rebrand same chipset give it a new name fiasco" is what ive been waiting for. A card which actually is going to wipe the floor and give us the next performance level.
Something which LOL's @ crysis

well it has ben confirmed that both the 48xx series cards have 800, yes 800 unified shader processors! makes my 8800gt's 112 look a little sad...
But I suppose it could be similar to amd and intels clock for clock comparison, ie there may be lots of them but they may not perform as well as nvidia's
tbh im not all that impressed if these are real,

3ghz quad and only 12k? i think i could hit 15k or 16k with a 3gig quad pushing my gpu.
My GTX gets similar scores with only a dual core cpu...

Don't seem 100% real, the graphs are badly layed out, with text very close to other, and the card being tested second, usually always first in graphs.
This is also alot cheaper than the 9800, why? if they could get away with the higher prices?
I am waiting for solid info

my 8800Gt on q6600 @3Ghz got more!

Resolution plays a part in the low scores guys

That says 3600MHZ on your Quad doesn't it?
Anyway I think you should ignore the CPU scores a little bit and focus on SM2.0 score and HDR/SM3.0 Score.
At 1280x1024 I get SM2 5508 and SM3 5782. That means my GTX apparently beats that card?

RESOLUTION
Me @ 1280x1024 : 12,164
4800 @ 1280x1024 : 12,494
EDIT: If my CPU score was as high at the 4800 benches I would beat it.
EDIT2: I cant do 1920x1600 on my monitor but at 1680x1050 I get 11,128
This is all with a cpu score of 2,733 which is dragging my score down compared to the Quad which gets 4,135.
RESOLUTION
i linked to 12/10 res even at 19/12 it only scores 10k which is nice but nothing that special.
I'd just like people to bare in mind that 3dmark isn't exactly the best depiction of how a graphics card performs in real world situations against another.
Are you sure it's confirmed to be 800 streams? I thought it was meant to be 96 x 5 way shaders marketed at 480 streams?
Given the specs of the card, the performance looks peculiarly high in everything barring 3dmark. I'll keep ahold of my bag of salt for a week or so. Regardless, looking forward to seeing what it's made of and how much it costs.

I noticed that the gpu-z states 480 unified
The 800 comes from :
http://my.ocworkbench.com/2008/amd/AMD_Radeon_HD4850_HD4870_Info/AMD_HD4850_HD4870-1.htm
I'm skeptical. Given the power consumption, projected heat output and pricing, 96*5 streams sounds more realistic than 160*5. Time till tell :)

only a few more weeks and all will be very clear!
Yeah not much point speculating. We shall discuss this topic in a few weeks! :P

no doubt at great length
Indeedy. If all goes to plan I'm thinking of buying one as well but with a F@H nVidia GPU2 client due in the next few days that might not happen.
to be honest id rather wait and see how GDDR5 performs because the name itself makes me think my god its gunna pwn but then again ive seen GDDR4 models and they dont perform as well but in all they should be great value for money/performance compared to the Nvidia cards (no im not a fan of either)
They're both meant to launch alongside each other now so that shouldn't be a problem. Just bare in mind that while GDDR5 could be fast, the higher clockspeed doesn't necessarily translate in the same performance due to the timings and efficiency of GDDR5 and also how limited it'll be by the 256bit memory bus.
tbh im not all that impressed if these are real,

Agreed if those graphs in the first post of the linky wonderlust gave are real then i would expect alot higher in 3d06 tbh. Think i'll wait for some "official" results.
I know 3d06 isn't something to rely on too highly but based on other specs and other graphs of this card i'd be expecting 15k to 20k of 3d06 !!!!
these will need to be cheap to stand a chance,

4ghz quad only nets 15k.
well my stock 8800gtx and q6600 @ 3600 scores 13k so tbh if those ARE accurate then i'm not impressed at all.

£111 if we get the HKD price of $1699
but 15k for £111 seems good to me! a 8800gt beater?

Another review. HD 4850 has hit preorder for $195 in the states. Assuming stocks are trickling into the UK in time, we should be able to expect £99-109 + VAT on these cards. 8)
um ur not guessing the price of it over here by changing the currency from dollars to pounds are u? coz it usually goes for £20-£50 more here than over the states

Yes I am. Like it or lump it, for most products in terms of their recommended retail prices and excluding mail in "rebates", prices for us are very much the converted price + VAT + £5-10 max.
Example
Core 2 Quad Q6600 RRP ~$210
$210/1.9511 * 1.175 = ~£125 | ARIA PRICE £117
MSI P35 Neo2 Fr RRP ~$110
$110/1.9511 * 1.175 = ~£65 | ARIA PRICE £68
XFX GeForce 8800GT 512mb ~$200
$200/1.9511 *1.175 = £120 | ARIA PRICE £125
Rip off britain? I think not.
i know, i love people saying the states are so cheap when in truth we are cheaper, ddr3 for example we are about 5% cheaper across the board if you know where to buy from.
side tracked there somwhat
i had a play with mine last night and i got 14.7k (vista so add 1k if you want to compare to xp) with my dualcore at 4ghz, if it was a quad it would be 16.7k (ish) knock 10% off that for a oc'd 88gt and this is still lagging behind.
looks like ati will bolting 2 gpu to 1 pcb to compete again this round.
Sounds like it indeed.
I'm hearing things that unlike previous bodged dual gpu jobs, the drivers will recognise the 4870X2 as a single graphics card with a unified pool of memory. I'm skeptical as realistically there should be hardware limitations preventing that from being done but it could well give a dual GPU card a chance against a single GTX 280 for example.
