Squad in full (alphabetical by position)

Ben Foster, Robert Green, Joe Hart;

Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Michael Dawson, Phil Jagielka, Glen Johnson, Joleon Lescott, John Terry, Kyle Walker;

Gareth Barry, Stewart Downing, Matthew Jarvis, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Scott Parker, Jack Wilshere, Ashley Young;

Darren Bent, Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney.

http://www.thefa.com/England/News/match-centre/2011/Wales-v-England/Match-Previews/Squad-announcement Barry :eek:
Lescott :eek:
Milner :eek:
Carroll :eek:
Rooney :eek:

Fair enough, Milner and Carroll are quality, done naff all though. Carroll is barely back to full fitness.

Barry continuing his fraudulent run of caps.

Long time coming for Matty Jarvis, ace player. More worthwhile this season than Milner has been at Citeh

We'll start with the same old line up though, midfield of Milner--Wilshere/Barry--Lampard --A Young.

Ashley Young? Fair enough. Swap Milner for Jarvis and give Scotty Parker a game instead of Barry/Lampard. Sticking with the same team that played at the WC poorly doesn't make sense.

Nice to see some new faces - after the world cup I would have wiped the slate clean and started again.

3 changes max from the world cup side I predict :(

To be honest there are only a handful of people you could pick from any different.

Kyle Walker is a new face, who has the potential if he gets chance, although he will currently have to fight his way through the regulars.

Joey Propane
20-03-11, 21:28
Phil Jagielka

For the love of... The Polish are even in our national football team now?!:p

Smalling hasn't exactly shone this season when he's had the chance has he? He's be nowhere near my 25 man squad if it was down to me.

ThunderFlash
21-03-11, 00:07
Him and Vidic have been pretty solid.

sb89
21-03-11, 00:09
Smalling has been playing with Vidic in place of Ferdinand through injury. Basically, he's exceeded a lot of United fans expectations and has been outstanding considering he hasn't had much game time before hand.

ThunderFlash
21-03-11, 00:25
Exactly. Miles more so than Lescott.

Maybe Fergie blocked him being called up as of United have huge list of defenders unavailable...

meh, you'll qualify comfortably and play well prompting the inevitable hype from the media then when it comes to the actual tournament you'll probably get to the quarters at best with most of the 'main' players fluffing it when they play someone decent and are exposed for being the overrated, overpaid crap that they are.

Do you even have football in N.I.?

Is it like the "scottish" football equivalent?

Tainted

A few of my friends play in the Irish League and tbh it's underfunded and doesn't get nearly the support it should from the government here basically because it was just another outlet for the crap that was/is going on over here. It's getting better, but it's still used as another platform for the morons to bang their heads together. The League of Ireland isn't too bad and has produced some fairly good players over the past few years.

As for the England squad, I'd like to see Parker get a game instead of Barry who I have never liked as a player and was mystified why Benitez was getting rid of Alonso for him.

Scott parker deserves a few games played well this season in fact Man Utd could do with him in midfield alot better than what we have now!

agreed, that goal he scored against liverpool was of the sort i would expect to see from the likes of iniesta and hes been playing brilliant all year

Scott Parker is the definition of a man. Read the news lately? He played through the Spurs game hours after his father passed away. That's a real man. You don't see him go round shagging other players missus or involved in some boozed up orgy do you? Give him the armband already. The stuff he's done for us is incredible. If he doesn't start against Wales then Capello's more of a usless (insert bad word) than I thought. ;)

Same with Cahill and to a lesser extent Young. All of them would be England regulars by now if they were playing at a top 4 (as we used to have).

What? How? Explain pl0x.

He's playing in the prem against top clubs week in week out. Yes, he might get picked ahead if he was at other clubs, but can any other top 5 team guarantee him that he'll start every week.

Young is a certain starter now and he's playing at Villa..who aren't exactly high flying this season.

Fair point. Although, he shines amongst mediocrity. Playing with better players week in week out would enhance a player's game.

Then again, he's like 30/31 so a switch would be a bit late for him in his career.

I'd still play him ahead of Gareth Barry....

nft99

has been linked with a move to Spurs a few times now, likely to happen in the summer ? even if West ham avoid the drop? (i think they will on last day again! )

I can't see it myself. Harry's admitted he's not going to get him and I don't think Scott could bear to leave us for our arch rivals. Plus, look how many flaming midfielders they've got! Bale, VdV, Pienaar, Sandro, Lennon, Bale, Huddlestone, Modric , Krankjar...plus a few others. That's atleast 9 players to play in 4 positions. Overcrowded much? :p

Phil Jagielka/Baines deserve their caps!

emmitt

Parker's been of the best English players for about 3 years, the big clubs hardly produce any English talent, it's mainly the other clubs like Newcastle, Everton, West Ham, Southampton and soforth if we had an England team producded by the big four it would really struggle, you'd have Wellbeck, Gibbs and then god knows who.

Telila
23-03-11, 15:38
Wilshire + Walcott...that's the only 2 I could think of, off the top of my head

And 1 of those wasn't "trained" at Arsenal

lets see if we can pick an England 11 from the current top4 :thumb:

GK: Joe Hart

FB: Cashely Cole
FB:

CB: Rio Ferdinand
CB: John terry

MD: Adam Johnson
MD: Jack Wilshere
MD: Frank Lampard
MD:

FW: Wayne Rooney
FW:

Not a bad team if a little short on players :clap

AaronWHUFC
23-03-11, 15:40
Their teams didn't produce them though!:p

(Bar a few)

Telila
23-03-11, 16:23
GK: Joe Hart - Not "Original club" - ie not youth product

FB: Ashley Cole - Same

CB: Rio Ferdinand - Same
CB: John Terry - Same (Although 10+ years could probably now count)

MD: Adam Johnson - Same
MD: Jack Wilshere
MD: Frank Lampard - Same

FW: Wayne Rooney - Same

So out of that list, only 1 Jack Wilshere, is a product of the youth team for the club they play for....not exactly the "top 4 produced" team now is it? :p

While he was young, technically Arsenal pinched him from Luton Town.

As a Gillingham fan, I'm delighted for Matty Jarvis.

Arsenal have a habit of doing that while making them seem like their own discovery.

Kieran Gibbs -> Wimbledon
Luke Freeman -> Charlton/Gillingham
Craig Eastmond -> Millwall
Henri Lansbury -> Norwich (oddly)
Mark Randall -> Northampton
Kyle Bartley -> Bolton

The only other worthwhile English talent that did come up straight from Arsenal is Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, and he's only made 1 league appearance.

It's the same with all the foreign youngsters. Get them really young from other clubs, and pass them off as their own scouted talent.

emmitt
24-03-11, 13:03
But the joke is none of them players get picked before they move to a top 4 side, it's so stupid. And in all honesty as proven on the last page the top four are not giving back to English football only taking from it.

nft99
24-03-11, 14:44
Just blaming the top4 is a bit harsh football is now more than ever about instant results, fans would like to see home grown players come through the ranks but clubs dont have the time so buy internationals from abroad to chase those results. This in turn cuts down the chances of the homegrown players.

emmitt
24-03-11, 14:47
It's not a fact that buy players, its the fact they buy the Lampard, Walcotts, Rooney's etc who would never be first team regulars for England if they wore a different shirt at the weekend, it's like you automatically can't be a good player unless you play for top four then as soon as you move to the top four you automatically start getting in Englands squads etc.

Telila
24-03-11, 17:45

I'm going to guess you support 1 of the big teams right? Becuase that still happens A LOT at the other end of the table.

The teams without the billions in the bank still rely on homegrown....and I hope they always do :D

nft99
26-03-11, 14:29
Not many Premier League teams rely on home grown talent

I support Man Utd :thumb:

Well played Scott. Thought they all played pretty well, especial Young. Terry was superb at bringing the ball out and as usual, Ashley Cole shows us why he's the best LB in the world.

Very comfortable win for England over a very poor Welsh team.

Agree with Aaron_H that Parker played well as did Young and Terry.

Thought Bent didn't hold the ball up very well but was in the right place to socre the second goal.

Lescott in a white shirt, again he was toyed with and made to look the most vunerable at the back. Shame it's on ITV or Hansen would be screaming about that goal, just awful performance from Lescott imo

Spot on. He was dissapointing. Thinking about it, there aren't many defenders who Fabio could call upon instead. Richard Stearman of Wolves has been a rock at the back for them this season, consistent displays week in week out.

Atleast now Fabio knows that Lescott isn't really a serious contendor for the CB or other 2 slots.

Good game though!
