View Full Version : MotoGP 2011
Race season in the top tier starts today, 6.30pm BBC2
Stoner already seems a shoe-in for the title, hes riding a new bike faster than Pedrosa has managed in 4/5 years, he's yet to crash in pre-season afaik, we all know his race pace is second to none. Still dont like thr guy though :D
Rossi's season is over before its started, no way to catch up the development of the Honda's, also behind the Yamaha's and several sattelite teams
My end of season final standings are:
Stoner
Spies
Pedrosa
Lorenzo
Simoncelli
Dovizioso
Rossi
Edwards
Thoughts ?
my thoughts on this is I need to catch this on iPlayer :thumb: :D
I've also learned to never, ever rule out Rossi - he can still make bikes do things that no other rider can

Apart from the Ducati. He cant ride that too well right now, but i guess we can let the shoudler excuse run a while longer, he is the GOAT afterall
Pants race, hondas are mentally fast so good on them, Lorenzo did well to split them up and carl cluchlow was great aswell, Rossi will get into gear it's a hard job with a new team and bike, he did it with yamaha so fingers crossed.
fiiinally on iPlayer... although I already know the results  :D

not the best race but a solid start.
Good race for Stoner, the new Honda gear shift system is amazing! Lorenzo was lucky Pedrosa had a problem, and Pedrosa was lucky when he tried to overtake Lorenzo down the home straight when he went off roading.
I've never seen Rossi get off the line like that in years, perhaps he was thinking it was his best chance, go like a nutter & block for the whole race lol.
Still Dan Ped is scary off the line, problems or not he always seems to fade later in the race.
good race if your name is stoner.
tbh it went to the script following on from preseason testing.
Casey was always going to win this 1 if vale couldn't challenge him, they are the only 2 ever to win there and Casey is as good as any on a bike with a good front end, seen him riding for years and even at 14 and 15 you could see his class.
ped still hasn't got the strength in his shoulder to push all the race, you can see he starts to make mistakes in the 2nd half of every race and unless he can bolt and make a big gap it costs him.
vale, well tbh after his op I don't think we should expect anything from him till the British gp at the earliest.
the big issue for me is Japan, Honda have said after the next race they are out of parts so it must be as bad if not worse for the smaller firms. only plus point is with the Japanese race being pushed back gives them a big gap from the 2nd to 3rd race. I mean everything other than the ducatis come from Japan, bikes, tyres, rims, shocks the lot :(
guess they could do a short race on the padock scooters xD
omg missed first race of the season
BAD ME
hope its still on iplayer looking now
I'd imagine it's still on iPlayer. I haven't got round to watching the 125 and Moto2 yet.
Wicked still all on Iplayer something for me to watch tomorrow
Burgess has been saying that while Stoner did well to steer with the rear wheel, its not how you want to be riding that bike. Why not ? hes won more races than anybody in 800cc class doing exactly that !
Makes you wonder if Rossi has forgotten his skills from the mad days of 500cc strokers, it was all ****-end out back then to get about, if he adopted that now he'd be further up the field. Trying to turn the Duke into a Yamaha just isnt gonna happen anytime soon.
Stoner rides so different to everyone else, and it works for him. I didn't expect much from Rossi, still not 100% and on a new bike.

mad mad mad mad race
tremendous stuff :thumb:
was entertaining to say the least, just wish vale took that little spanish **** out and not stoner tbh.
cal was unlucky but after seeing the tyres at the end im more shocked those who finished managed to even get to the end.
races like this must make a case for letting them come in a swap bikes for another with the same tyres on, only the condition they was in at the end was more dangerous than the weather.
Or of course they could use tyres that are designed to last a little longer.
Like the arguments in F1 over tyres, it is an artificial situation in which all the talk about making racing safer seems to have been ignored.
just watched, absolutely gutted for simo and spies. not a lorenzo fan but did chuckle when he tried to jump in the pond and slipped!
thought rossi was spot on for going straight to stoner to apologise after the race, dont see much of that these days but instead of stoner taking it gratiously had to put his snidy little comment in which just made him look like a complete ***. cant say if it was the other way around he would of been over to rossi to apologise as quickly if at all.
eventful race none the less

i can't stand that whingy little Aussie p:censored:k
he can only dream of having half the talent or ambition of Rossi.
really felt for Edwards too btw, after coming through a race like that, to have the damn bike let you down 1 lap from a podium really sucks :(
yea, sucked for edwards :(
idk burn, did they get the option for harder tyres? only thing i heard was that they was all on the same compound.
The manufacturers make tyre compounds for the specific race track and conditions. They could make them last better if they wanted to too. Like F1 the racing is being affected by the requirement to make it more "entertaining", turning the sport into a show.
It is not yet as bad as it is in F1, but you can see the influence creeping in.

I could not have worded that one any better. I also noted the pat on the shoulder while saying something like " having some problems with the shoulder mate" as if Vale is faking the injury.
Never been a fan of stonebag & tbh he didn't come out of that one any higher in my books, he may be a good rider but oh dear what a whiney little child.
A great race, caught it today after working yesterday, Ben Spies was unlucky and doing well and does anyone know what happened to Colin Edwards bike, it looked like the front brake had seized on or something.
I heard something about engine failure but honestly don't know.
It was strange, when they were trying to pull it out of the gravel the front wheel was locked solid, or looked like it was.
Yea he said his engine just died in an interveiw afterwards and something about it sucking dogs testicles.
Lol cheers mate, typical texan reply then, he was going like a good one.
Yep, I was near tears laughing as it was live on the beeb xD

i noticed that too but it did free up so i think it was one of the marshalls pulling the brake lever!
i think stoners riding style is plain boring, no flare in it. i am not a fan of lorenzo in the slightest but at least he has style like rossi on a bike. must be why i like de puniet, always entertaining watching him gunning for it, just a shame about all his crashes
was anyone else laughing their heads off when all the marshalls ignored stoner and got rossi going before even helping him  he was not a happy little chimp:cry:closet
Yep lol stoner is making a complaint about it, even the marshalls don't like him.

looks like he doesnt understand the concept of just let it go

Sorry, but are you blind? Stoner rides completely different to everyone else and it's amazing the way he slides it etc although it shouldn't be the quickest way, it seems to work for him. I can see why the marshals would have seen to Rossi first as he was stuck under Stoner's bike, but even when they were both up trying to get going the marshals didn't split up to help both Stoner and Rossi. If you were in that situation, I'm certain you'd be pretty :censored: too. It was a racing incident and Rossi is the kind of guy to do what he did, it was a mistake and he said sorry.
Any racer would of gone for that gap and of all people stoner is going to understand about the Duke losing its front end lol
Was out of order the Marshall's not helping him but it depends how you look at it. Rossi was stuck under his bike so getting him out is the first priority, next there's the fact that once they was up dossier bike needed to be moved before he could get a push. Wasn't right the way they all started to walk away once Rossi was moving tho.
Stoner has one of the best styles to watch IMO he just wrings its neck and rides it out.
Got to agree, while i cant stand the guy, Stoner just oozes skill on the bike. Even though Rossi would have done him early on, i would still have put money on Stoner to win the race if they both stayed upright, if only because of how twitchy the Duke's are in the dry, let alone the wet.
That said, how awesome did half the field perform ? rain is like the FA cup - a great leveller :D
To be fair Vale & a good few riders were backing it in to the corners many years ago, it's not really a Stoner thing or even anything new. Stoner is a class rider, no doubt, but to say what he said just made him look even more like a whiney little child.
I did think the marshals were a tad amateurish to help Rossi up & ignore Stoner, perhaps they saw Rossi stuck under a bike & Stoner get up with his bike. Not the best job really I have to say.
I'm a huge Rossi fan but not to the point of being blind to a silly move, he went in too hot & ruined not only his own race but stoners too. At least he was man enough to go & try to say sorry, something that was thrown back at him by a green eyed monster.
i disagree, yes he has skill otherwise he wouldnt be in motogp but i find watching him riding dull and he just complains when it doesnt go right, for example rossi and stoner at laguna seca a few seasons ago where rossi went for a very small gap coming out of the corkscrew, stoner didnt like it and accused rossi of being wreckless.
finding and taking chances like that (when works :D) takes talent and i just dont see it in him, but i admit i am biased as cant stand him :p
its the beginning of the season, yes its annoying but its not the end of the world

Cal's tyre after race.
I didn't realise the wet tyres were slicks

I been watching rossi since his 125 days and this guy is the only reason i still watch Motogp cause even when they write him off the pulls off the unbelievable..stoner will never come close..
I remember Phillip Island when he got that 10 or 12 second penalty and he absolutely whooped the entire field ...
However, Stoner could not resist a jibe at his rival, telling the Italian: "Your ambition outweighed your talent."
hes not serious is he with that statement
125 race was amazing! 16 year old Vinales overtook Terol on the last corner after they played cat and mouse through the whole race. It was Vinales' 4th race, beating Rossi's record.
Dani injured again this guy is like paper ....very fragile
Yep broken collarbone from his crash, although it wasn't Simoncelli's fault imo. Great ride from Rossi from 9th up to 3rd and a great battle with Dovi. Stoner flew away, but in the warm up there was no need for him to punch de Puniet.

Jorge Lorenzo just had a huge high-side in FP3, hit real hard.
he 'walked' away, but he was mostly being carried by stewards, looks to be fairly beat up, but wasn't clutching anything in particular like it was broke..

did you see it btw ?
he hit real real hard, it says something about these new inflatable suits that he can perform like this a couple hours after a hit like that :)

Couple of stunning laps at the end there by Rossi to get 7th and Stoner to steal 2nd. He looked nowhere near that pace all day and nailed it on the last run. Lorenzo was just banging out lap after lap consistently at a top pace.

yeah, kudos to Rossi for plugging away with the new bike and still posting a decent time (here's hoping it actually pays off next season..)
Stoner shoulda been fast to start with tbh, he rescued it more than anything imo..
Looking forward to this tonight. Last weeks race was a stunner, but then Sachsenring is sort of like Spa is for F1, generally is a belter.
That move stoner did on pedrosa going into the corkscrew was pure class.
Added after 5 minutes:
Lol how the hell did stoner do that move on Lorenzo, lol brilliant racing.
Pretty decent race. Don't like Stoner but he raced incredibly well today.
Watching it again on eurosport.
Gotta rememer Lorenzo could hardly walk and still finished 2nd, awesome
