You haven't put it together yet? Come on! :)
Nice "refresh" though. Looks like a long overdue PSU upgrade judging by the molex adapters used and the fact it doesn't have any braiding.
will you be using the same case?
edit: saw the case now got a bit lost in the pics

Hi there
I notice you have bought the Mushkin PSU please ensure that it set to 240V as most of the ones we have had in Systems have been set to 110V :thumb:

Maybe you (Aria) should put that on the website as a little heads up for the customers. ;)

Well, if you had attempted to turn it on with it set to 110v, you would've had an awesome fireworks display with a rather large *BANG*. ;)

After I posted that I thought - hang on, I'm using the PC!!!!
Back to the build.....
Core bits together

Nice memory (2 more installed since :D)

I put it in the case but then realised that the USB/Firewire leads etc run underneath the motherboard
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h140/kavanaj/i5-2500K%20Build/DSCF0574.jpg
and then I could cable like so :)

Little bit more cable tidying

I find the extension used here to be very handy when trying to manage the mobo power!

Any particular reason why you used an extender rather than just using the cable from the PSU? :)
Looking good so far! Any ideas for a new CPU cooler? It seems a bit of a waste with that CPU to have such an excuse for a cooler on it.
Great cable management there so far :)
Thanks guys - I used the extension so I can run the cable under the GPU and sound card. I find most PSU's (when installed fan up) the cable just isn't quite long enough :)
I'm waiting for a CoolerMaster 212 Plus which I will be retrospectively fitting shortly!! And then let the OC'ing commence.......
Right - hard disks and optical drive in :)

A closer look at the power cabling on the disks :)

ARGH - Didn't realise the time - off to play rugby but I will continue later ;)

That last HDD power cable, in the middle. OWCH! Be very careful.
I've managed to break a HDD like that before, please... make sure they're as straight as possible!

Haha you lucky sod. I managed to break an old drive like that. My SSD broke whilst in my laptop. I don't know how that is even possible...

You sly goose you.
all that nice cable management and then the board has to come out (probably, case dependent) to install the 212+ :(
very nice cable management mate :thumb:
Thanks very much guys - I feel it's worth doing and even with board out I will be able to maybe even see room for improvement (plus I forgot to plug my new 2TB SATA III HDD into the SATA III port!! :o
@TheMadDutchDude - I hear you on that one! The HD isn't fully fitted (case only had 4 long HD screws :() so I will make sure it's not like that when I complete the build!! :)
Hopefully you can see it's not so bad in this pic......
Here with SATA leads which I remembered (after the event) that I normally fit the SATA leads with the motherboard as I have very unfriendly PC building sausage fingers!!! :censored:

Finally getting the GPU fitted (before and after shots trying to keep the power cables as neat as possible.....

And built :thumb: - the big gap below the DVD-RW is for my Aerocool Modern-V fan controller - I like the look of it but it takes up 2 5.25" bays!

With lights off (EPIC apologies for the pic quality - I have no idea!!)

Everything worked perfectly 1st time so no DOA kit. Phew :D
Oh yeah - one last pic of the screen whilst installing new drivers (and re-registering Win 7 :() lol - well worth it!!!!

Thanks for all your comments and I will have to post up when I get some with the fan controller and the 212 Plus.
@DT - yeah, the board will have to come out but I'll put it back just the way I put it in, if not better :thumb:

Looking good, Kav!
I'll have a look in my box of goodies tomorrow to see if I have any of the long screws laying around. If I do, I'll drop you a PM. :)

Thank you very much!!! :D
That is a very kind offer but I have already asked my builder friend to get me some from work if he can - I'll let you know if that falls through tho!! :thumb:
Looking good mate. I get to upgrade my Athlon system to SB soon. Got the RAM/CPU. Just waiting until payday for a board. I'll put mine up then aswell :)
Thx Josh & ur upgrade is going to be epic!!!!! Such a speed increase :-) I remember the jump from my XP to C2D - that was impressive enough! :D
It looks nice , are you going to upgrade the cooling?

I have found 12 of the screws if you need them.
Drop me a PM with your address and I'll pop them in the post for you.
It's like looking at my PC, but with better cable management and less dust!! nice
Some nice kit there. Cables though :( Get some zip ties! :p
That case would look so much better if the inside was black. I think you should spray it. :)

Don't worry, I will be using them heavily when I put the last bits in. I got my 212+ today so as soon as I have the time I'll fit it and post again :thumb:

I was seriously considering it when I had it 'naked' but then the Rev B3 hot stock and I just coulnd't wait any longer!!:D

that case looks terrible for cables so nice work there mate :thumb:
How are you finding the board?
Nice build btw
Very nice build there. Seeing all these builds is getting me on the edge of my seat for payday to REALLY hurry up
Thanks all - the 900's are known for their lack of cable management holes etc and a lot of people have modified them to make things easier... I thought about it but then decided that I couldn't wait! Patience has never been a strong point of mine ;)
@Monkey_d - the board seems fine, I haven't OC'd yet as I was waiting for my 212+ cooler as the Dark Rock Advanced won't fit with 16GB - as I found out :censored:
@NipNip - ah man, I feel your pain there! I had to wait till I had the money (1st time for everything, normally I would use my flexible friend!) but it's well worth the wait! I assume you'll be posting your build log as and when you get said bits? :D
Yes I will try and get some 'useable' photos. Just got to hope I dont get too excited and steam through it all far too quickly and forget :s

Everyone seems to be getting the Asus P8P67 Pro...why not a Gigabyte or an MSI?
i would guess the antec 900 is a ten year old design now, i know ive had mine for at least 7. for 26 quid cant argue

I was going to get the MSI GD65 but the P8P67 board came into stock and I thought I had waited long enough! ;)

Yeah, I think they've had a couple of revisions and then the 902 came out but I thought for the money good enough :thumb:

And now the P8P67 Pro board is about £25 more expensive then it used to be :(
And the MSI is cheaper than it used to be, and the Gigabyte is the same price as it always was. And the P8P67 boards have had quite a few reports of problems with graphics cards, expansion slots and memory slots...
looking very nice :thumb:
got any benchmarks coming :D? im looking at getting that board in about 2 weeks :)!
looking very nice :) you should now buy a after market cooler and oc the living hell out of it :)
Whip out a dremel and cut some proper cable management into that 900. It will love you for it. Spray the interior matte black while you're at ;)
