Slightly random screen issue

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 here at the moment, and the screen doesnt work. I can see the image on the screen, but there is no backlight, so its either going to be the inverter or the lamp itself.

The weird thing is that it displays the Dell splash/bios POST logo completely normally. Also, when you change resolutions, it will display normally for about 1 second, and then the light will die. It will also display normally for around one second if you switch to an external monitor and then back to the laptop LCD - so its clearly capable of working to a degree, but just wont for more than VERY short periods of time :lol:

I've got a suspicion about what it could be, but what do you guys think?

Inverter me thinks, but as usual I could be wrong, the inverter is getting power and when it has to do the work it just cuts out it would be the first thing I would try.

ya defo sounds like an invertor problem.not difficult to fit and they dont break the bank nether. Hopeflly you will be luck and thats all it will be

Yeah, thats pretty much the conclusion I'd come to. The thing that made me question myself was just that it displayed the POST screen with no issues.

I'll order one and see what happens! :D
